Folder in a belt pouch concealed?

Folks:
Is a (folding) knife in a belt pouch generally regarded as "in plain view"? I've worn my Leatherman PST on a belt pouch for years and never really thought much about it. In an effort to look more "managerial" I changed to wearing a BM 705 clipped to the front pocket. It more noticable than I'd like so I'm thinking of going to belt pouch carry. Let's assume I'm in another state, say the one that only allows 2" or under folders concealed, is a 3" folder in a belt pouch going to get me in trouble? (FWIW I won't be going to California). Thank you for you kind assistance.

p.s.: I do know better than to rely entirely on internet advice.
p.p.s:
I'm really going to try to make it to the show this weekend. Anyone else from VA going?

I would think the only way it would be considered as "concealed" is if your shirt were un-tucked and obstructing it from plain view. Everyone knows what a folder belt sheath(ala Buck 110) looks like. That's the common sense viewpoint.
Actual law, however, might not agree. There is some pretty foolish legislation out there about what's considered concealed and what's not.

Concealed carry comes in to play if a 'weapon' is carried in such a way as to not be in common view. Case in point; if you carry a Berreta 92 in a Bianchi military flap holster with the flap covering the grip of the firearm, it could easily be considered concealed, even though all (at least most) would know it was a handgun. How picky jurisdictions are varies, as does the interest of LEO's. Beware.

The answer depends on where you live.

Oh, and don't think that just because you've read your state law that you know the answer. The answer is as much in case histories as it is in the state laws.

I think ,I am sorry to say,it all depends on the
way "AHC"(A**H**** in Charge) inturpets the law
he/she is inforcing.

Many years ago a buddy and I werecamping in Canada in November. It was cold and I was wearing a parka that was about mid thigh length. We were sitting by the side of the road in the middle of NOWHERE looking at a map trying to find a provincial park to camp in. Itwas early evening and starting to get dark. A cop pulls up behind us and my buddy who was driving got out to talk to him and ask about the location of the park while I continued to look at the map. Next thing I know my buddy is standing in front of the car the cop is shining a flashlight in my face and asking for ID. He then orders me out and starts frisking me. I had a 110 in a belt pouch and when he felt it I could feel him tense up. He said I was under arrest for possession of a concealed weapon and called for back up. I was scared witless! Here I am in a foreign country and have no idea what my rights were. We were in Southern Canada not real far from the border. When he pulled my hands behind me and put on the cuffs, I actually considered kicking him in the balls and making a run for the border. A very stupid idea and I certainly would not have gotten very far but I had visions of busting rocks in some hell hole in the Canadian version of Siberia. After several hours of hassling including damn near taking our car apart we were released but that little incident ruined my vacation and it was 25 years before I went back. That didn't start out too well either. I was taking my kids (9 and 12) to Niagara Falls. At Canadian Customs the agent asked me if I OWNED a gun! Not do you have one with you do you own one! I thought I misundersatood so I said no I don't have any with me. She got all testy and said I asked you if you OWNED one! I said well yeah at home I have one and she gives me the spiel about not bringing it into Canada. I repeated that I had nothing with me that it was at home. I almost turned around and when home. We eneded up having a good time but I was pissed!

PHANTOM4: Shuda told her "damn right and don't get any ideas of invading the United States!" :D md

How and why can a country as heavily forested as Canada, where your very survival might depend on a knife or gun, be so repressive on the subject?

[Perhaps this is straying from the topic somewhat, but after I read the above post, it again raises this question in my mind.]

I guess they're like Kalifornia, they're all scared stupid of innatimate objects. After all, it's better to die in the mountains than use a knife outside of the kitchen.

I wish I had thought of that Michael! Donald, after the cop found my Buck, my buddy says hey officer I've got a knife too and pulls out a very small two bladed Case. After hassling us for several hours the cop says to me "I sure hope you have proof of ownership for all that fancy camera equipment and your watch (I had two Nikon Fs with several lenses and was wearing a Rolex Submariner) or you are going away for a long time!" The year before I had gone to the Bahamas and was told to register everything with customs before I went to avoid being hassled about paying duties. I had everything listed with serial numbers signed by a customs officer. I had put it in my wallet before going to the Bahamas---didn't need it coming back and forgotten about it. I said to the cop "As a matter of fact I do!" and pulled out the customs declaration. You should have seen the look on his face! Then he says "well I could run you in for the weapons charge but what's the use". I then got a lecture about Canada being a "civilized" country that didn't permit knives like the Buck. Then he hands my buddy's Case back and says a knife like this is acceptable. Now remember we were camping and were 90 miles from nowhere! Three days later we went to a Montreal coffee shop for breakfast and some guy is sitting at the counter witha 12 inch Bowie strapped to his leg!

Phantom, the only way to go and have breakfast at a coffee shop is with a big bowie strapped to your leg! Do people really have breakfast any other way?

Well sure Danbo thats the way we do it here in the USA but we were up in that "civilized" country to the North where carrying a Buck folder in the woods is totally unacceptable!
