Hello everyone, yes I am new here and I was curious to ask about your opinions on some coating/lube/rust resistant products for my knife. Basically, I have a folder made from Cpm 3v which is obviously open to getting lots of patina and sometimes rust and so far Ive seen a lot of reviews on items such as Renaissance Wax, Ballistol/Frog lube, plain old mineral oils, and also I've heard a thing or two on some new ish' film products. What I'm looking for is something that will obviously give the best protection but to narrow it down to specifics , something that will essentially be the most resistant through possible harsh cold and humid environments as well as something that is reasonably food safe (I don't plan on using it for food nonstop but once in a while if its all I've got , I'd rather not become ill from ingesting it. Im open to olive oils etc obviously but i figured some other applications would be longer lasting and better in some ways. Also it would help to know how often you would recommend to apply the coatings etc. any help would be great! Thanks in advance

Frog Lube works great and is 100% non-toxic. It also has a pleasant smell and comes in a wax form or liquid.

Gonna get a lot of grief for this but......WD40. Been using it for years. Just spray it on and wipe off excess. Very thin so it doesn't gunk up.

For the naysayers. Started using this when I was about 12 to protect firearms. Because that's what all the guys at the skeet club used to wipe down their shotguns before casing them. You know Krieghoffs, Perazzi's, Winchester 4 barrel sets. Stuff like that. I figure if it was good enough for them it's good enough for little 'ole me.

Works great, haven't had any problems with rust yet. :)

JungleJim65 mentioned something I forgot.... The smell. It's awesome! You'll find yourself occasionally smelling your knife if you go this route... Try to resist the urge in public :)

I know, reminds me of wintergreen altoids haha. it goes away after a little while though. :)

Thanks everyone for your input, looks like my best bet so far will obviously be frog lube, ill look into it!
Thanks again!

For years, I have made a CLP called Ed's Red. I clean firearms with it, leaving a light coat on for protectant. Recently, my grandson left GUIs pocket knife outside while he raked leaves. When we found it, it had begun to rust. We soaked it for two days in Ed's Red, scrubbed the rust off and left a light coat on. Google Ed's Red for the recipe. It's done well by me.

I use Sentry Solutions Tuf Glide on all my knives... if Frog Lube is particularly better for some reason, I'd like to know (it appears to be much more expensive, though I notice it is "USDA Certified Food-Grade", which I don't think Tuf Glide is...)
