wow can a folder make you crazzy fast
i just had to take a brake and get a little air before i work on cutting the lock
(i think) thats the next stel right or was it drill the pivot hole:D
 
I have been working on a lockback. I just drilled the holes over turkey day weekend at my folks'(no room for a drill press in my Boston apt. I'm afraid). I have done everything so far by hand with files. It has been extremely satisfying.
 
well just put them in for temper
the top one is jsut a test as its not ground the greatest it is however cpm10v and should be aobut 62Rc or so after im done with it
the other one is a folder im working fro myself(cpm3v at 61-62) Rc i need to get better at folder work
so i can get a "licence to drill" from spyderco so dont ask if im selling these 2 blades as im not

Those folders will ruin ya! Once you get started on them you cant stop I think its a type of disease though no clinical studies have proven it.

i think time alowing i ll grind out a new blade fro the cracked one sadly im out of .212 cpm3v so i ll have to settle on .187 P. ground cpm154
 
well here is the 2nd blade
i didnt have any more 3v in the thickness i wanted but i had some cpm154 that was close
it should be at 62Rc so it should be fun

You might try heat treating before gring the bevels, may save a blade or two. I find it a bit easier to grind stainless after heat treat, especialy the thinner blades, though I'm far from an expert with folders, or anything else for that matter! Good looking design though, I'd be interested in seeing the finished product.
 
thin is not what this is 3/16 thick
the problem was bad radius at the plunge cut and the stress of going from 3/16 to the edge of dime thickness :o it was jsut dumb and luck was not with me
btw the blade is just 3 inch long sorta a hoss

That design with a wave would be SWEET!!!!!!

The only folder I have ever even THOUGHT about attempting is a basic bali...
 
well i can tell you this one the spyder hole is not for anyone other then me as per sal out of respect for him
the wave i would also need to ask for use
but i plan on getting use of the hole at some point
im getting my skills up and later down the road i will fill the 3 folder orders i have a nail nick and 2 thumbstuds then i can start making a few for sale here

i have been playing with this style folder for about 2 years and am just now tring this mod in steel i have revised it many time before this and already i can tell i will be doing more changes
