I'm undertaking a new project. I want to re-do a CS Voyager, using metal liners and frame and putting some nice scales on. I plan to skeletonize the liners and frame for lightness and I'm not set up to work titanium. What do you folder makers suggest? I also want to do as much file work as I can.

Jake,

You might also try to "jewel" or machine turn the liners. Easy to do, just get a small 1/4 inch abrasive (rubber/grit) and use a drill press.

Tom, I've dealt with plenty of stainless steel, but I've never tried anyting with titanium, and I've heard stories of how hard it is to work, and frankly I don't feel like experimenting with it to find out. I want to keep this project as simple as possible with the best results I can get.

In my openion the titanium work's better than the 410 416 or 300 series ss just get your tap's streight when you start

I'd suggest 410 or 416, heat treated.
Titanium isn't that hard to work, it's just different.

Heheehe, on my first liner lock, way back in 86, I used ATS-34, hardened to 54 Rc. Man, did it lock up. I still have it and it still locks up real tight.

Like all stainless steel liners, it's heavy.

Thanks for the input guys, its much appreciated, looks like I'll be going with 410, before I asked I was going to use brass.
