I would like to know which little folder or multitool do you recomend for a Kindergarden teacher ( my wife ).

I would like something with the following features for her:

- More than the blade
- Locking blade ( one hand opening )
- Little ( in order to have it hide, because of her job )

Thank you

I am not sure that you can meet all your criteria, in particular the one-hand opening/lock blade and more than a blade. Two possible suggestions:

1) Leatherman Micra mirco-multitool: small and I think your wife would find it to be very useful, particularly with the scissors

2) For a better knife, you might want to consider the spyderco lady bug or cricket.

I am sure someone else will also have suggestions. Good luck!

Although it doesn't meet one of your criteria, I second the suggestion for the Micra. Great scissors that I'm sure would come in handy, plus some tools for very light repair work. The Victorinox Rambler and MiniChamp and Leatherman Juice also come to mind.

Is there a specific reason for the one-hand opening and locking blade requirement?

I want it in order to have the option of Self Defense use.

Thank you for all the options that you are telling me.

I hate to say it, but I think she'd be better off with two separate items, a one-hander knife and a multi-tool.

For the multi-tool check out the SOG CrossCut. It isn't as common as the Micra, most folks who have tried both seem to prefer it.

For the one-hander I recommend you look at the smaller Spyderco offerings and see what she likes best. My favorites are the Jester (very small) and the Mouse, although the Navigator has recently begun to grow on me.

For a different approach, have you considered a neck knife instead of a defensive folder? The blade on her multi-tool should do for most things, so the neck knife could remain out of sight unless it was really needed.

My favorite neck knives are the Spyderco S.P.O.T. and the Emerson La Griffe. Both are tiny, flat, and lightweight. Both have grips that you can't lose. Both have small but fierce blades that become a part of your hand for close-in use.

Mate, ask your wife to pick one of the Leatherman
Juice or Squirt models. Both will do the needs
of a lady with minimum fuss or threat. ;)

Thank you for all the info.

What do you think about the Gerber Multipiler 700 in a neck sheath ?

Thank you.

You may wish to have your wife check school policy. Small multitools may not be welcome because of the "blade."

My wife is a 16 year veteran junior high school teacher and anything with a blade cannot be on campus...period.

Now, could a small multitool be overlooked? Maybe. But my wife is a "literalist" and won't bend the rules. [I just don't tell her what I have on me when I visit her at school! I be in jail in a second! But to be honest, what I carry ain't nothing compared to those dang big "teacher's shears" she has on her desk.]

Just don't get me started on how stupid this policy is ... :barf:

I have owned and used just about every multi-tool on the market. My favorite is the Gerber 800 Legend. The 700 should be an excellent choice for a slightly smaller pocket tool.

Check with Normark at On/Scene Tactical about getting a neck sheath made for it.

Hmmmm.....A gerber 700 in a neck sheath for a
lady school teacher?

Wouldn't that be baiting the bear just a bit??

you mentioned Self Defense capabilities. I would suggest a job change if you are concerned for her safety on campus. Its the same as avoiding bad parts of town after dark.
On the question at hand: Micra or the new Squirt.
take care

I know that exist a lot of knives designed for self defense ( tactical ) but I want it in order to use as a tool and as an impact weapon ( like a kubotan ). This is the reason that I am thinking in this kind of multitools.

And because my wife doesn't want to use a knife in a Self Defense situation, but as an impact weapon it could be, actually she took some knife training with Steve Kern ( Instructor ) and me here in Monterrey. You can see some pics here:

Maybe what she needs is a pure tool and a separate impact weapon? Take a look at these and see whether any of them would work for her: http://www.october.com/prepared/defense.html

I particularly recommend the ASP Key Defender.

Well, for defenses purposes how bout a flamethrower with a Micra welded to it. Seriously I think the Gerber Multitools are made for one handed opening also, SOG just came out with a new folder called the Flash (I think) it's listed in the A.G. Russel catalog for about $35.

Finally I bought for my wife the Gerber Multi-Piler 600 Woodsman because of the closed-size of the Multitool, and for the tools that it has.

Thank you for the info to everybody.
