I thought this had been asked before, but I can't find the thread now. Do any of you carry a fixed blade for EDC? I have been looking for a fixed blade for awhile now to fit that role, but haven't had any real success. Obviously it would have to be less than 4" in blade length, but one that carries easily and doesn't frighten too many sheeple. A slightly larger Pikuni would suit me just fine.

For what I use a knife for a folder is perfect for me. I don't have any heavy cutting needs most of the time, so I don't need a larger knife or anything fixed. For self-d a larger fixed blade with a handguard would be great, but it would raise eyebrows, and (while not illegal in Canada) cause hassles with the "authorities" I'm sure.

I carry a Spyderco Endura. Fits on all my clothes.

I carry fixed on weekends. I carry a 3.25" Simonich Cetan. Very low profile.

Sometimes I carry a Mad Dog Pack Rat, also fairly low profile.

Folders all the way. I love the ease of carry and the compactness. Furthermore, a quality folder has a lock strong enough to compete with a folder in all real life tasks except moderate and heavy chopping.

If you consider neck knives to be fixed blades, then yes, I usually carry a neck knife as a part of my multiple EDC knives. I have a wide variety of custom neck knives that fill this role: Snody Compadre, Simonich Talonite Pikuni, Jones Bros. Tigershark, Carson small F4, and a McLurkin one-of. I mainly use the neck knives for small cutting jobs that require a small blade. Sometimes cutting food, other times opening mail, etc. I would like to add to this that my default EDC is always a folder. Most of the times, two.

I carry a Buck 102 in a kydex IWB sheath lashed to my boot on workdays. It's tough, holds a good edge and if I drop it in the river I have a spare at home.

I carry both most of the time, because my favorite knife happens to be a folder (a CF EDC). I have one more folder on the way, and it will probably be the last for a long time.
Find myself carrying fixed blades more and more.

In addition to the EDC, I usually have two fixed blades, a CF ArcLite neck knife, and a Strider MFS-TS. Was carrying a Camillus 154CM Talon, but I prefer the Strider, since it's small enough to carry all the time, and I can do the "heavy" stuff (stuff I shouldn't be using a knife for:o) with it that would break some of my other knives.
Also use an old BM Nimravus for a beater alot, and keep a Busse Basic 5 between the seats of my truck. I'll take a fixed blade over a folder every time, but can't seem to leave the house without my EDC.

btw, since you're looking for a fb for carry, the ArcLite is an awesome little knife (3" blade/6 3/4"OAL-same size as a small Sebenza), comes with a great sheath with multiple carry options, and can be had in a variety of steels and handle materials(mine's D2M and CF). Darrel also makes a 4" version.
The Camillus Talon is another that I love, and carries very well cross-draw horizontal.
The Strider MFS-TS is 3/16" thick, has a 4" blade. I can see the sheeple freaking over this one, even though, personally, I've not had a single comment on it, other than how cool the tiger stripes look. Does a fine job on cardboard, and the heavy hose that I frequently cut, and stands up to prying open crates, and breaking banding material with no problem.

I'm constantly looking at small fixed blades.
Check out Trace Rinaldi's Gambit, and an exclusive knife by him from www.theedgeequipment.com - the mini(?)-Enigma.
The Mike Snody Snake Bite is another I've been lusting after, but all the dealers have sold out of them it appears, and he's not taking orders.

Though I don't carry a fixed blade for EDC, I think a small fixed blade is the best and safest utility blade for an assortment of tasks every day. Too many compromises happen in designing a folder (don't take me wrong, I love folders...I just believe "fixed" is better).

I have a folder in my pocket before I walk out of the bathroom every morning! Sometimes I have a small fixed blade too. Right now I like the new MT Medallion. Soon to have a Snody Compadre too!!:D

I mainly carry folders (small Sebenza), but do ocasionally carry a neck knife. I've been carrying a Livesay SOP off and on for a while now. I will be receiving a REKAT Pikuni any day now (thanks Mike!), we'll see how it works out. If I find one that suits me better, I'll carry one more often.

I carry 1 folder and 1 fixed every day. I have several of both types, so I just look in my closet, slip the folder I feel like carrying in my right front pocket and strap the fixed blade to my belt.

I have to go concealed, but an untucked shirt tail does the trick. I mainly just use the folder for daily utility. If the fixed blade comes out during the day, it will probably be used to defend myself.

Whatever you do, if you decide to use a fixed blade for edc - just make sure it's easy to carry. I'd stick to a 4" blade or less.

i often carry a small fixed blade in the winter(ie CRKT companion, custom Polkawski companion, or MOD razorback, Gerber Mk1) when ya can conceal it, but in the summer its folders(ie BM 800S,custom Crawford/Kasper Ti fighter,REKAT SIFU) all the way - i carry a glock so i dont wanna be too conspicuos w/a knife showing w/out a jacket, though its perfectly legal in this neck of the woods - folders are just handier too imho

Until I get my Anso personal damasheep I'm limited to folders. I expect thet I'll carry that little sheep quite much when (hopefully not in very distant future) get it.
I work in a lab so there are puukkos around but most are misused and dull - I'm not nice enough to sharpen knifes for people that misuse their tools - so I have my folders.

Always a folder for EDC. Which one depends on what I plan to be doing. If I am hiking I carry a Cold Steel Oyabun, strapped to my backpack. (Freaking thing is big enough i figure i could use it as a tent stack if worse came to worse.):D

Fixed blade whenever off duty (due to uniform regs). I also carry two folders, one small and one larger, every day. I especially recommend the Dozier Arkansas Toothpick , the Cuda CQB2, and the Benchmade Nimravus Cub.The new S&W HRT "boot knife" is really slick too, so I added a TekLok in place of the plastic clip provided.(Yes, I know all about S&W's ethical problems. This is still a teriffic knife!):D :D

Usually I carry folders but in certain circumstances I prefer fixed blades.
For example: In the cold season I carry a CS Safe Keeper 2 in my coat pocket because IMO the push dagger is more practical with gloves than a folder. Or whilst my night walks in the past summer months I carry a neck knife (Fällkniven, Garm Fighter) by the reason of the faster grip.

At work I carry both. . . But, when away from work. . .I'm strictly a folder freak !

Life is great ~ when your able to live in both worlds ! :D
