Can anyone suggest an edc folder that has atleast a 3"+ CMP S30V blade and under $100.00. I may be going overseas soon and want something good.

Thanks

Ed

How about a Kershaw Ken onion Avalanche in s30v?

Ed, are you in the military? being deployed? If so you may want to be careful what you bring with you. I remember back in November 1990 when I was being deployed in Desert Shield/Storm everything was scrutinized. Alot of it has to do with your commander, what that person may regulate. With us it was nothing over 3 inches. Than by the time we were overseas I was carrying a standard F/U. Others it usually is nothing over 7 inches, all depends on service, commander, job, etc. etc. etc.

I can't seem to locate an Avalanch in s30v....only in 440v(s60v)

I checked Kershaws website, only s60v..

Can you tell me where to find one in s30v?

Thanks,

Thomas

Kershaw also makes a Random Leek in s30v. There is a review of the knife over in the review forum. Looks like a very nice knife, the Leek is a great knife and my only gripe with it would be the use of 440A but with this variation they may have hit the jackpot. I have not seen a price on the knife but I would think that you could pick it up for around $100.00 if not less.

Spyderco has a number of s30v blades at or under $100:
- Native with s30v (not all natives have this steel) can be had for $50-60, a little over 3".
- Chinook II was just released, retails around $100, 3.75".
- Lil Temperance is a little beast, retails $100-125, 3".

Other options:
- Blade-Tech Pro Hunter in G10 can be had for under $100 from stellarrigs.com, 3-5/8". I have the Mouse II, and it's exceptional.

There are many others, I think, but I'll let other members point them out. Good luck finding the one that works for you.

The Random Leek is a very nice knife and had been available from Chesapeake Knife & Tool as an exclusive for $69.99 as an introductory price.

I just checked their website and they are now going for $99.99, still a good deal. I might have to pick one up for myself.

Apox,

"Overseas" as in mil. deployment? My reason for asking is because unless you're military or have the position or capacity to get ALL your gear to your foreign destination, you might want to think twice about bringing something really nice. I've heard many stories about customs agents, baggage handlers, even our own TSA agents and gear that ends up "confiscated" or missing. You might want to think of ways to get your gear there without involving foreign customs or the airlines for that matter. Good luck :D

I have an avalanche in s30v I bought almost three years ago. I also have one in the old bead blast and cpm440v. perhaps they changes the blade stell again?

We never went through customs when being deployed. We were on military transports (c-130, c-141) and were checked as we went through the processing line (getting shots, records, wills, etc. taken care of).

Dayahun 13,

Gott'a ask. Why would your C.O. prohibit personal weapons, esp. knives? Non'a there bidness!

As for going into a combat zone, I would take a good three inch blade like the Blur and as a boot hideaway, the leek (but I would Really rought up that slick handle, I'd also take a neckknife).I'd also throw in an136" ASP and pepper spray. If I could, I'd take a modified 8 shot short barrel 12 gauge. Worked Well in Nam.

Regards,

Dave

Heh, why not join up and straighten them out - but before you go after that O-6, warm up on an E-7 or two. :D

30-30, rev_jch,

I was asking if Apox was a GI! :) "Overseas" always sounds like a deployment even when civvies say it. I'm sure if Apox was a GI, there wouldn't be an issue but he never said if he was or wasn't. Just thought to mention it to him if he was a civvy going overseas just for vacation or work. A bit of "food for thought"!;)

I'll second either the Spyderco Military or the Blade-Tech Pro Hunter (don't let the "hunting" part of the name bias you...it's a GREAT do everything knife.)
Both are A+++++ knives.
