Well everyone, after bothering you, badgering you, asking redundant questions, and generally being pretty fickle about the whole issue, I've chosen and ordered my new folder. It's a large Sebenza. Tommy (Wulfgar here on BF) had been putting up with my frantic search all week, being more than helpful and kind. I ordered a large 'Benza from him this afternoon. Thanks to all who posted on my many threads, and RGRAY and St.James, you fully earned that smug smile you're wearing as you read this!

I will definately be getting a Synergy in the future, and will decide on the Commander when I see that new Emerson Mach 1. The manual Socom is "iffy", as I have the DA and it's awesome. Thanks again, everyone, and I'll let you know my "first impressions" when it arrives (hopefully next week). Thanks especially to those who not only put up with my annoying posts but also were patient and understanding via email. It's good to be among others who share the illness!

Well what type of large Sebenza?? Plain or decorated?? Just wondering.

The Sebenza's are great knives. Someday I'll get myself one, and maybe even carry it.

I am happy for you! (jealousy, envy, dammit!!!)

Please post, as a new 'benza owner, how it feels....

Titanium rocks...

It's the plain large one. How does it feel? It feels like sitting by the fire in a cabin with your hunting buddies after a long and successful hunt. You know that there is more game out there to be had, but for now you're satisfied.

What a great knife...you will not be disappointed. I had a funny experience with my Sebbie today. It has been pouring in Kodiak all week and I wanted to put some HEET antifreeze in the gas tank. You have to pry the top off and I pulled out my large Sebenza to do the task. I was going to use it to pry the top off....it sliced it right off like a razor cutting paper....the HEET spilled all over me....I thought that was so cool.....this knife is so great.

Get a Graley sheath to make it even better!

Paul,IMHO you made the correct choice.
You have a knife to be proud of. It's hard to stop at just one.
Now you need a small, a wooden, a decorated, a Classic,a Umfaan, etc.

LOL, thanks guys. I'm heading out for an anniversery weekend with my wife, and am happy to report that the Benza may be the knife with the most stuff to print out and take with you to read!! Yeah, she's real impressed.

Paul,
this has been a learning experience for my self and i want to thank you for your patience while i was trying to answer your questions.i think you will be satisfied with the large sebenza, you tend to form a bond with them, you know this knife will take care of you if you take care of it.thanks again
Tommy

Paul,

I'm curious as to what swayed your decision towards a sebenza. Seems to me you had your mind set on a Synergy. Both great choices nonetheless.

How does a bullet taste? (like chicken probably)
But I'm sure you'll be happy that you finally bit that Sebenza bullet, they are a fine knife.

I was very fortunate this weekend to locate one of the Wood/Irie Swinglocker knives, wharncliff blade with Desert Ironwood scales, so very nice, had to part with a John W. Smith folder and a little green paper stuff but the Swinglocker is worth it! (no, I wouldn't have traded my Sebenza's, though there was a fellow at the show that really wanted my Umfaan, but he settled for the canted sheath instead, he already had one but wanted another for his daughter, but he really needs a left handed model, so if anyone knows of a left handed Umfaan, email me.)

Also if anyone wants a peak at the Wood/Irie, you can email me and I'll send you a scan.

Got to meet Jim Beam at the show this weekend he was there poking around a little don't know that he ended up with a new knife or not? He was real nice, a pleasant person to talk with, even if his better half that was with him doesn't understand the need for steel,

she seemed nice also, the show was smaller this year than last year, don't know why, there were still a lot of very nice knives there.

Enjoy it Paul!

Johnny, good question. I did an awful lot of reading about the Sebenza-do a search in the Chris Reeve forum for it and you can real all night! The Synergy is awesome; I will have one this year. I'm really not sure what moved me to the dark side of the Sebenza. Tommy (Wulfgar) and I emailed each other TONS during the last week, and he spoke so highly of it that I thought what the heck, I'll see what all the hoopla is about. He also "made me an offer I couldn't refuse." (

thanks, Tommy!) The Synergy is next. I've read virtually no complaints about either knife, and in the end it was basically a coin toss. I've wanted a Sebenza ever since I joined BF, so I guess it got the nod mainly due to seniority. I can really think of no advantage one has over the other. Fit and finish on both are reputed to be the best. Functionally, both excel. Looks, I find both very appealing. Resale on both is outstanding, in fact if you do a search only three Synergy's have been put up for sale and they sold in literally hours. And you know how quick the Sebenzas go (and the only reason they are sold is so you can get the decorated or the wood Sebby!) Like I said, the Synergy shall be mine, but for now I'm content to bask in the glow of titanium for a little while!

-Gary, I'll be in touch very soon!

Congrats, Paul!! I too expected you to go with the tech, but i can't blame you. i do love my benza's.

Welcome to the fold. I bought my small Sebenza a couple years ago second hand, and frankly, the only folders I've bought since have been either gifts, or specific "application" knives, such as a carbon Dragonfly for airports (depending on my destination, I'm not willing to jeopardize losing my `Benza), and an orange handled Rescue Jr. for my medical "crash bag".

James, that was the exact quote I was thinking of. Fun movie, wasn't it?
