I am interested in purchasing a folding knife for general use purposes. My budget is to spend between $80 to $130.I know this forum has many keen knife owners and would like your input as to what would be a good purchase.

Thanks!

There are many very good choices out there in your price range. It will help if you better define what you are looking for.

What length blade, locking mechanism etc.

My recommendation for a fairly large, tough folder is a Benchmade 710. You can get one for between $100 and $120.

Yeah, but what kind of knife are you looking fer?

Many different knives there are, as Yoda would say.

You gan get real good small ones. Benchmade Appariton springs to mind for those. If you want a larger blade, Cold Steel Voyagers are a good way to go. (I carry a Gunsite with a 5-inch blade, but most folks don't want a large knife). I'm also comfortable with a 4-incher Voyager, Gunsite or Vaquero.

How big of a knife are you willing to carry?

What cutting tasks do you think you'll encounter?

Welcome to the forum. :)

Nice to have ya here. Both Spyderco and Benchmade make great folders and are in your price range. You might want to look at Kershaw too but they have alot of assisted openers which may be considered too much like a "switch blade" by you.

Without knowing a length limit I would say that a Spyderco Delica 4 or a Benchmade Griptilian or Mini-Griptilian would be good.

If you want to go a little more towards the top of your range then try out a Spyderco Paramilitary or a Benchmade 525.

http://www.newgraham.com is a great place to buy and they have very nice prices. ;)

Get yourself a Benchmade Griptilian or Mini-Griptilian...You just can't go wrong with one of those.

I agree that it's difficult to recommend a knife if we don't know what type you're interested in.
Anyway, here are some of my recommendations for your price-range:

Light-weight folders:
Spyderco Pacific Salt
Spyderco Native
Spyderco Centofante III or IV
Spyderco Salt I
Cold Steel Voyager series

Medium-weight folders:
Spyderco Endura 4
Spyderco Delica 4
Spyderco Military
Benchmade 550 or 551 Griptilian
Benchmade 940 or 941 Osborne series
Benchmade 710
Victorinox Rucksack

Heavy-weight folders:
Spyderco Chinook II
Spyderco Manix
Buck Custom Shop 110

Slip-joint folder:
Victorinox Fieldmaster
Victorinox Electrician
Victorinox Pioneer Harvester
Victorinox Soldier

Hope this helps,
Allen.

Get youself a large stockman or trapper... a Moremaker or Queen brand will do. Check out the Schatt and Morgan railsplitters.

Please define "general use purposes". As you can see by the varied opinions above, there are many different knives that fill the role. It means different things to different people. Do you like or dislike serrated blades? What blade length and overall length would work? What size is too big? Are you left or right handed, it makes a difference. Do you need a locking blade or will a slip-joint work? Your price range is something of a sweet spot and covers a lot of different GP knives. GP folders from Victorinox, Benchmade, Spyderco, Buck and Schrade (RIP) may fill your needs. You need to be a bit more specific.
