Folder that's easy to take apart

Hello

Are there any smallish (~3" blade) folders that can be easily taken apart for cleaning?

I've grown pretty tired of my Kershaw getting all dirty and stiff and not being able to clean it properly. I realise that warranty is out of the window probably but as long as it's easily taken apart and put back together I don't really mind.

TIA

Strider PT, Emerson CQC14 are two that come to mind immediately.
Both a bit pricey though.

The Spyderco Calypso III has a removable blade which is normally all that need be removed for thourough cleaning.

But the best one of the lot that I've run across is the Buck/Strider 881 Mini. This is the size you want and about as easy as it gets to take apart clean and put back together to maintain.
Its a pretty stout little knife too with a 4.5mm thick Bos heat treated ATS34 blade, sturdy .070 thick liner lock and liner of 6AL-4V titanium and textured G10 scales for no slip grip.

Emerson. Any of them will serve you well.
Not only does their lifetime warranty allow for user dis/reassembly, but they're constructed with regular screw heads (no silly torx or allen bits needed).

Nearly any screw construction liner-lock or frame-lock should be easy to disassemble and reassemble.
Even Benchmade's Axis-lock folders are not that difficult to take apart and but back together.

BTW, Spyderco's FRN lock-backs (especially the ones without liners) are the easiest to clean....you just put them in the dishwasher.

Good luck,
Allen.

I have several Kershaw model 2420s and they all come apart easily and reassemble in minutes....great knives !

I don't know if you like traditional style folders, but I saw this recently and thought it was a good idea.

It's called a Bulldog take apart knife, the single screw in the center breaks the knife down for cleaning. I saw a picture of it apart as well , but I can't remember where.

elegant knife indeed

I have one of those Bull Dog take apart knives. Neat knife. 440 C blades and very useful. When the blades are closed the tang sticks up pretty high on each one though. I've actually cut my knuckles on that tang reaching in the pocket for something other than the knife. They do come apart to clean but they are not what I'd call the easiest to get back together for the novice. Anytime you have a back spring to contend with its going to be tougher to get the blades back in.

Strider PT, as well as a small Sebenza, is on my "will get someday" list, for now though I'll have to settle with something a bit easier on the wallet. The Emerson(s) certainly look good but the handle to blade ratio seems a bit off. Guess it's just so that they got the blade under 3".

Should've said in the OP that the smaller blade implies a smaller overall package as well. Also it's just day to day tool, no SD considerations here.

Well this looks interesting, it's the first I've seen it. Definitely a strong contender.
