Folder to complement my Becker collection?

So I'm kind of looking for a new folder, with the same characteristics as my Becker knives, ie, toughness, value, and general kick-ass-ness.

I have the BK11 and the BK14 but I find the handles are just too small for me to use comfortably. Right now I am using a cheap Boker Magnum folder and it's aiiight but I'm definitely interested in an upgrade.

Anyone have a favorite folder that embodies the Becker Ethos?

I kind of have my eye on the new Kabar Gila. Anyone have experience with this one?

I like the Buck Vantage Series.

My EDC is a Plain black Paperstone version in 410HC that I have convex the bevel on. It cost $20 at Walmart and is still razor sharp and tight as the day I bought it several years ago.

Great USA made knife and they are available in several different blade steels and handle materials.

Depends on what you want to spend. For around $30 the Ontario Rat1 or the Spyderco Tenacious are pretty good folders. If you wanted to spend up to $100 a Benchmade Griptilian, Spyderco Para2, or Manix2 are all great folders with good steel.

So it obviously depends on what size and price you're looking for. But, you mentioned the Boker Magnum so I'll go with that for similar stuff.

Funny, I had a Boker Magnum too. Actually liked it, for a sub $20 knife. My brother in law needed a knife - he's got it now. But it makes a good beater.

Lot's of good stuff already mentioned

Anyway - another fan of the Buck Vantage line. I EDC the large Pro. For $55 tough to beat.

The ZT's are great too. From the 200 all the way up to the 560's (depends on your price) and if you like the recurve blades.

Kershaw Blur's are real nice.

Spyderco's - Military, Sage, para mil, etc. All good.

Tons of really good folders out there - just gotta' find something that works for you.

And remember, you can always sell a GOOD knife if you don't like it. You'll prob. take a small hit,
but it won't be a total loss.

I love my ZT folders... Have the 301 and 350..... Both are great heavy duty folders.... Just like Becker fixed blades

For the same range as the Boker I second the Tenacious or the Rat 1. I also like the skyline from Kershaw for how thin it is fits nicely in my duty pants. If you have the cash to step up a notch Spyderco Manix or Para Military 2. Also Cold Steel makes some good knives like the Recon 1, American Lawman and the AK47. Lots of choices out there.

carbon steel? check
attractive? check
sharpens easily and holds edge? check
as tough as a pocket knife needs to be? check
economical/bang for buck? check
something that is US made and will last a lifetime (or 2)? check

all that ^ describes the Case Sodbuster. Which is only folder I carry, fits in great with my 11 or 14 for EDC.

I've been carrying a Rat 1 folder for a while and I like it fairly well. Before that I EDC'd a Spyderco Delica and loved it but I think my next will be a ZT0350 when I can pick one of those up.

I'll third the Bucks. Great value, American made for the most part, reliable, proven over generations and a lifetime warranty. Vantages are a great choice but the classic models - 110, 112, 301, are nice too, especially the newer ecolite and paperstone versions.

Awesome suggestions, thanks all. Plenty of food for thought. Will check some of these out for sure.

I have (among many others) a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and a Manix 2 and both are awesome, tough, arrive popping sharp, and feel great in the hand. I highly recommend them (as I see they have been recommended above, just wanted to throw in my .02!)

Don't believe my Spydie Native is nearly as tough as any of my Beckers but it is sharp as all heck and made here in the USA. Also, similar to the bigger Beckers, the thing is comfort itself to hold and to use. It excels at different tasks but Spydie Native is one heck of a good choice.

Yes I also recommend the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. It looks awesome and feels great in my hand. That's what she said.
