I have made fixed blades for over 18 years, I tried autos a few years back, made 4 and quit, it made me crazy trying to get it all just right. Well I'm about to go at it again, only this time with a benchtop CNC machine. Any advice from folder/auto makers for me? It is a little scary with the cost of equipment.
Thanks and God Bless!

Hi Darren,
I have purchased a Taig CNC 2026-ER16 and will be using Autodesk Inventor 9 & 10 and Bobcad 16 coupled with Mach3 to drive it.
I am pretty excited. Here are the 4 autos I made about 10 years or so ago. Excuse the picture, it is a scanned in old 35mm.

I ran mine on mach one also Jim.
I have special made servo systems on the drives and the motors so I really dont for the standard set up.

Let us know more about the machine. I ran CNC before I retired and thought it would be great to have one to make knives on.. The one benchtop I researched just didn't look big enough to make any kind of cut.

nice autos stag, the third one down really speaks to me, it is an uncomon blade style for a folder and the craftsmanship on all of the handles is toop-notch! i really look forward to seen more in the future!

Hi Jim,

Those autos look great. Also, thanks for posting that link, I've been wondering about a desktop cnc machine, this gives me a reference to start looking into them! Thanks!

Darren, no problem, I think of all I looked at, this it was the best for the money. I started learning Bobcad (cad/programming) yesterday and am anxious for it all to get here (about 3 weeks). By the way if you need a computer to run one with, I just bought a Dell for $249.00, sale good thru tomorrow ($353.00 with shipping and tax).
