Hey folks, since I'm going to NYC in March, I though I might buy a good folder and not being over over over over... charged for buying it here (Buenos Aires).
So the point is, there's 3 folders that I'm taking into consireration, and I'd like to hear your advice/experience with them before taking any decision.
Here they are:

Sog Vision
Titanium handle, but not ergonomic. May result in slippery grip?

BM 750 MonoLock (Pinnacle)
also titanium handle, a lil bit more ergonometric than the Sog.

A "classic" Emerson CQ7 (ex BM970s)
G-10 handle.

So, thank you for your time. :-)

Why not get a custom instead of a production piece? For about what you would pay for one of the knives mentioned in your homeland, you could pickup a truely stellar example of the knifemaking art.

Specifically, a genuine Chris Reeve Sebenza is only $325 in the U.S.

A Kit Carson Model 4 in the $400 range.

On the cheaper end, check out the Columbia River knives! Those Carbon Fiber M-16's are stellar!

p.s. You could have a knife delivered overnight to your hotel while in the U.S.

Tracer-san, I suggest if your coming to the NY Show, keep an open mind, and look at everything, you might just end up with a custom, or semi-custom. I hope I see you there, maybe we can get BladeForum ID's.

I don't have much experience with it, but the MonoLock is supposed to perform. The lock and handle are rugged and the recurve cutting edge is effective. I'd go with the MonoLock.

You might indeed find a custom that really catches your eye, but if not I'd go for the 750 Monolock-it's what I'm carrying right now

A great working knife IMO and the lock is super strong.

First of all I just have to agree with Tom Mayo. Buy them all if you can. You'll want them eventually, so it is going to save you money.

Of what you mentioned if you want a knife "for real work" go with Pinnacle
or Emerson. I do have Vision and I like it, but I don't carry it most of the time. Let me confirm, that the handle is nice in touch and looks nice, but it is not ergonomic.
Cool thing about SOG is that it has a tanto blade that is not chisel ground (well, at least I think it is cool

).

You may also consider BM710 Axis lock - just a little more expensive than Pinnacle. Great "workhorse". The handle is G10, slimmer than Pinnacle - which I personally prefer. I think it is more comfotable in a pocket too.

If you have more money to spend and don't care about the "tactical looks" do get Sebenza. Really awesome piece of work. Classy enough to be a "dress-up" knife on some occasions.

Oh yes, and the lock: Pinnacle's Monolock
is great! MB710 Axis lock is (in my opinion) even better. The SOG has a liner lock that may suck. I'll have to send mine in for repair/replacement as a matter of fact. Doesn't pass the spine whack test. HINT: when you are buying a liner lock always check how does it line up and do the spine whack.

Have a nice time picking!

Kris

Well, I think I'll attend the East Coast Custom Knife Show (thanx Phil for the data), and then I'll make up my mind.

About the Sebenza, although it's simplicity makes it a great choice, I wouldn't feel comfortable carrying all days a 300-400 dolars folder. I'd cherish it that much that I'd end up never actually using it *L*
Every time that I buy a folder I feel reluctant about start using it for real... of course I carry it, but it has to pass at least a week before I decide to give it the real use that it was bought for, does this this happen to any of you? *wondering*

And that thing about buying them all... well, I don't think so, I have plenty of other folders that I want to buy before start buying two or three folders of the same kind. (Not that I woudn't want to have them all ;-O)

I read you man,

. But believe me. Sebenza SCREAMS to be used. This is not some wimpy, pretty-looking knife that you put on a shelf and are afraid to touch. The price tag here is related to toughness and very high quality of that knife. And still, it is a very good looking knife.

The titanium handle may EVENTUALLY (let me repeat EVENTUALLY) show some wear, but it still won't look ugly. Stone washed blade doesn't show all these tiny scratches that really affect polished or BT coated blades.

Tracer-san, do what I did. Buy a lightly used Sebenza and save yourself $50.
I have done this with my small and my large.
This way you wont be afraid to use it.
I don't know about the decorated ones, but the plain ones do scream to be used and it will last you forever.
