Folders like the BM Ritter Grip?

I've been on a folder kick lately buying the Spyderco Zulu, ZT 0801, Rat 1 and Spydie Military. I'm enjoying them all- especially the Zulu and Rat- and tonight I broke out my favorite folder to compare to the new crew. The large Ritter Grip is just perfect for me, I love the grind, stone wash finish, blade shape, steel, size and handle shape. I like it so much I sprang for Cuscadi scales to pimp it out.

It does all I expect a folder to do, is plenty tough, cuts extremely well, carries great and the edge is easy to maintain. I was just prepping some wood and danged if it still doesn't feel like my number one blade! My Para 2 gives it a run for it's money, but is still a step behind. Anyway, I got to wondering about my next buy and thought "what is similar to the Ritter?"...I can't think of any and figure you all would have an idea or two.

So, what do you all as see a similar blade? My short list now includes BM Mini Onslaught, Strider SnG, Lion Steel SR2 and Spyderco Domino. What else needs to be on that list!

Check out the Spyderco Manix2

Had one when I bought the my para 2...great knife for the money, but the jimping bugged me. Does remind me though the old mini-manix was on my radar...

Congratulations on some really nice folders!

Do you like wide blades? The SR2 is an excellent value in aluminum!

Closed, the BM Mini Ritter is about the same size as the small Lion Steel. You might enjoy the small Ritter. Don't you love the stonewashing on the Ritters?

In addition to the Cuscadi, you might want to sample Kevin Wilkins' scales.

Back in the USA, another nice folder with a wide blade is the Les George ESV, a ti framelock with a 2.67 inch blade. Worth waiting for.

Spyderco's SuperLeaf is discontinued but still available. Same compression lock as the Para 2, with a wider blade.

There's also a smaller Rat, the Rat 2.

Thanks- I am enjoying all these new knives. The SR-2 is tempting and I do like belly on my blades. I wish there were some user reports out there. The George's look awesome of course...pretty pricey though!

This weekend I got to see a Hogue EX1 my dad got recently- I liked it a bunch! Cut well and seemed like a Ritter Grip on roids to some degree. Might have to look into one... :D

A Grip + Doug Ritter = A fantastic knife + money to the causes we all love including Knife Rights and Equipped to Survive.

It can be argued there is NO better knife than a Ritter Grip. But the Mk3 is pretty close.

Re the Lion Steel SR2 -- my aluminum version arrived just before the Labor Day weekend. Woo-hoo, is she a beauty!

Photos don't do it justice. I almost always prefer stonewashed blades but this satin finish is to drool over.

The framelock opens smoothly although not particularly fast. Closing takes some thumb effort, although, mercifully, not as much as that on the two Strider SNG's I owned briefly. The SR2 does seem easier to close after some break-in.

I'm not sure what the point of a small glass-breaker is on a 3-inch folder.

Having two pivot screw adjustments make centering a snap. For deep-pocket fans, the clip is just perfect. The steel tip on the framelock is a nice touch. I don't know that I'll ever need the added lock that supposedly makes it as strong as a fixed-blade. Even without it, the blade seems rock solid.

My only serious nit is the aluminum handles: yes, they are slick. The designers have put aesthetics ahead of usability.

If you like a gorgeous wide blade on a folder suitable for pocket EDCing, look no further.

If you liked perfect griptilian so much, why buy aftermarket scales:rolleyes:?

Because Ritter grips feel fantastic. Don't get me wrong. The Noryl handles offer a good grip. But G-10 or Micarta scales take the Griptilian to the next level.

At this point there is only one way to go. Chris Reeve Sebenza. That is the only knife I have found that competes with my Ritter Grip.

Flash, do you by any chance have the ability to post a pic of the SR2 next to a small sebenza or mini-grip? If you do, I'd love to see a comparison. I'm a big mini-Ritter Grip fan (yellow).

the Ritter is my favorite knife by far as well. I traded for and purchased several knives before the Ritter to experiment with and see what kind of blades best suited me. I owned more than a dozen different brands and types, and the one that is closest to the Ritter in my opinion would probably have to be the ZT 0550. It's got the stone washed finish and similar blade steel, size, and shape. I prefer the axis lock, but the ZT is surely built like a tank and rock solid. just my opinion...

Ritter grip is awesome. I purchased a used one here on the exchange. Two weeks later I bought a brand new regular sized and mini, couldn't be happier.
