Folders OK at Disney World, Orlando?

Going to drive up to Disney World resort this weekend with my family for the first time in about 5 years. I have heard that they now have security checkpoints as you enter the park.

I hate to drive up without one of my trusty folders, or worse have to leave it in the hotel room. Does anyone know if it's a problem to take something like my Paramilitary with me into the Magic Kingdom or the other parks?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about their position on knives, but given their policy about guns (not allowed, even with a valid concealed carry permit), I'd be awfully surprised if they would be OK with it.

Then again, I don't think they're going to strip-search you as you go in. Keep it well-concealed and I doubt you'll have a problem. (Still, I don't think I'd carry anything horribly expensive, just in case.)

Disney World is the evil empire- fascist USA! I'm not sure if they have metal detectors or not (it's likely)- but I wouldn't carry with a pocket clip showing. You might be whisked into the labyrinth of underground tunnels, and raped by a sweaty man in a Goofy costume.

I take it you all have seen the Southpark episode (jonas brothers, purity rings)?

I was there late 2007. No personal search but they did want to look in bags and stroller bottom (carrier area). Didn't have anything so didn't care, but didn't see any metal detectors at all, so even if it was in your pocket, I doubt they'd notice.

I just came back and went to three of the parks. I generally carry a scout pattern or sak, and did so at the parks. There we no metal detectors, no 'pat downs', etc. I carried the sak as it is of no great cost or sentimental value should it get confiscated. I carried a maglite and a few other handy items aside from the camera's... with not so much as a question

They do check bags, but you can probably bring in anything and they wouldn't complain. I was with my kids (1.5 and 2.75yrs old) and we carried in food, milk, water, etc. all of which is supposedly a no no, but with babies they cannot really say no.

My advice, just drop it in your pocket and walk on in. I saw plenty of folks with pocket clips exposed inside the parks, but not explicitly when going through security.

I just got back from Disney LAND and I have a story. They search bags, purses, etc. But not your person. However, do NOT let them see your clip. I checked my bags with an Urban in it and it got to LA just fine. So I carried my Orange Urban in my right front pocket the first two days without a problem. I wore tank tops that mostly covered the clip. The third day I'm wearing a tank top that BARELY allowed the clip to be seen and I was getting ready to board the Monorail for the ride into Disnelyland from Downtown Disney when a security guard came up to me and said "Sir, we don't allow knives in the park." I pukked it out and showed it to him, opened and closed it and told him it's just a small slip joint like a SAK. He didn't change his mind. I walked away mumbling that this is almost a $100 knife and I'm not going to lose it . . .

Fortunately I was within 4 or 5 minutes of my hotel room so I took it back for that day but then I just dropped it into my pocket unclipped the rest of my trip without any problems. Just don't let an employee see you use it or you will face taking it back to your room.

I was a little pissed because they do not post a list of what you can't take in the park so I asked the search lady what they look for in the bags the next time we went through and to be honest, she paused and had to think then she said "mostly glass bottles and stuff like that." Go figure . . .

I never carry anything with a visible clip in places like that. Went to Disney World in 12/08, and didn't have a problem with an SAK, which I did use discreetly in public. Also carried a deep pocket Leek. As stated, they DO check bags and that would probably be an issue if it was found. I doubt you'll have a problem as long as it's not seen...but no guarantees...

Every time I have been To Disney in recent history history I have carried a folder. A few times it was an Emerson Combat Karambit with the finger loop sticking out.

Any of those theme parks seem more interested in keeping you from bringing food and drink in. They want you buying at their concessions ;) Never had a problem carrying a folder in my pocket in any of the Orlando area theme parks. Don't use clips either, so my pocket knifes are always well concealed.

Security check your bags on the way in.

I would recommend you NOT carry a knife into Disney world as I truly believe it has no purpose there.

I've visited all sites recently and found absolutely no use for a blade.

Just go and relax. Forget about the steel.

Why patronize a place that has such a closed minded attitude regarding a simple tool? It's their property and they have a right to restrict certain things. And I have a right to take my family vacation $$$ elsewhere.

i'v been to most of the, if not ALL, the Disney owned Orlando parks. i've never seen any wanding or pat downs. i always had a knife on me and normally had a handgun. i was carrying folders back then and, like others have already suggested, moved it to my pocket so the clip wouldn't be visible during entry.

I visited Disney World in the summer of 2005. As you may know, the Epcot Center has areas made to represent many countries of the world. I'll never forget that in one of the shops in the Japan area they were actually selling pocket knives! They weren't quite as nice as the Spyderco Cricket I had in my pocket, but they were decent. After that, I felt much less nervous about having my knife there.

Im headed to Disney World in May (plenty of time to research) .. I never leave the house without a blade .. I need to find a smaller blade to keep inside my pocket .. But I have never noticed how many people carry blades there .. I go to Disney about twice a year .. And @SpyderNoir_JHA I never knew Japan sold pocket knives .. I will have to check that out .. Thanks
