I'm in the process of making a few folders, and am in the process of working on the pocket clips.

Do you prefer tip up or tip down carry?

Why do you prefer one method over the other?

Personally, I can go with either option.

Tip up has some advantages, but I've never had any issues with tip down.

Thoughts?

For me, it all depends on how much of the handle is left sticking out of the pocket with the clip. If it's a deep carry clip, I prefer tip down since when pulling it out, I pinch the top with my index and thumb, pull it out, and then swing the rest of the handle into my my hand, and then deploy the blade. If it has a significant amount sticking out, I put my thumb about where I like to hold it normally, get my other fingers on the clip and pull it out and I'm in a pretty close grip to where I like to hold it when using it. From there it is just a simple small re-adjustment to comfortable and then deploy the blade.

Tip up with the blade snug against the back side of my right pocket so the blade can't open.

I like tip up because I can already have my thumb on the tumb stud or thumb hole before the knife is out of my pocket, and I don't have to reposition the knife as I draw it.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm in the process of making more folders, and want to make sure that I offer the carry orientation preferred by the largest number of people.

I slightly favor tip up because when positioned correctly against your pocket seam, the knife will stay closed.

I haven't had any problems with tip down.

Depends on the size of the folder. I like to carry larger folders tip up in my right front pocket, smaller slicers I prefer in my right rear pocket tip down.
