The debate rages : fixed blades are
more reliable than folders, folders
are more compact. Who(m) out there actually had trouble with the "law"
carrying either. Me : No problem(s)
( I used to carry a Blackjack Highland Dirk in a homemade pocket holster ) and folders haven't been a problem ( guess I got the luck of the Devil ;)) Anyone?

AET ;)

I've had trouble carrying both. Although I beat both charges, it was always a situation where I did something else and they just tacked the knives on for more charges. The biggest fight was for a butterfly knife, which the leo classified as a switchblade. I showed how it wasn't a switch, then the charges were reduced to possetion of a dangerous weapon with intent to do great bodily harm, keep in mind that I was stopped for a traffic violation and it was in my pocket, I also told the officer it was there so it wouldn't be a surprise. To make a long story short the leo looked like a fool and the charges were dropped cuz they needed to prove my intentions. This was in minnesota. I haven't had any problems since. Exept one bar that won't allow fixed blade knives, which I just went to the car and put it away, replacing it with a folder twice it's size. They had no problem with the folder. My biggest problem seems to be a big mouth when leo's question me, combined by the fact that I carry severl knives which seems to intimidate leo's. I make sure all are legal now just so I can fight back. If hasseled make sure ya fight back if u'r in the right.

No problem so far. I carry fixed blades(BK C/U 7 down to a Marble's trailcraft) and folders(small pen slipjoint to a CUDA MAXX 5.5) and haven't had any problem. I called local LEO (City,County, and State) and all I get is "Make sure it's not concelled". None of them will give me a straight answer other than that. I'll just keep carrying what I want too.

i'm lucky enough to live in the boonies.

here in NY (outside NYC), there's no length limit.

worst trouble i had was being stopped by state troopers while they were clearing a bar after a really bad fight. i was wearing a Spydie Moran. the cop asked what it was for and i told him it was a utility/skinner. he just said "leave it in the car next time".

regular carry:

Spydies (endura, native, matriarch)

various Helle puukkos

my 12" o.a.l. Natchez bowie (raised some eyebrows, but no problems). probably cause it doesn't have that tactical look, very mountain man looking w/ painted native style sheath w/ fringe. kinda silly lookin if you don't know the period.

but, i'm going to Boston this weekend, w/ it's 2.5" blade limit. so carry will be a mini-stockman, Emerson LaGriffe and small SAK. great city, silly laws.

Never had problems with either. If you never give the cops a reason to stop you, problem solved.

Hey Allen, you're just on a debate rampage these days! ;)

Fixed blades vs. folder? Both have their pros and cons. However, I feel you get the best performance out of a fixed blade. The folder is a structural compromise and is just more convenient to carry discreetly over a fixed blade. Not as intimidating either.

What's your next topic? How about the TIP UP Vs. TIP DOWN carry debate and why?

Or which female celeb would you like to see in a silver bikini and what kind of knife strapped to her thigh? I say Kylie Minogue/Terzuola CQB :D
