i don't care how "tactical" you call a folder, but if it doesn't have any decent semblance of a guard, your hand could slide onto that lovely edge when thrusting into hard material.

i'm lookin for folders with a pronounced guard great for stabbing, like the emerson CQC8, pirela vorax, and lightfoot full contact fighter.

gimmie your lists... thanks.

I can't think of folding knives with "BIG" guards. But since you said like the Emerson CQC8. I can list a few with similar style of handles:
Emerson Specwar
Emerson Tanto - the one that he sells through I&I sports

CRKT M-16 Special Forces - pretty large gards

Benchmade AFCK and the TSEK

Round Eye Knife And Tool (REKAT) Carnivor and Sifu

Just some off the top of my head

Get a folder with a "flipper" as most of them use the flipper as a guard with the blade extended.

bring on the flipper lists!!!!!!!!!!!!

any of the CRKT M16 series. the special forces models have larger flippers (and on both sides) to act as a hilt, but the regular ones have quite a sufficient sized flipper to act as a guard.

those are the only ones I've used so far. there are plenty out there, though

The Al Mar SERE 2000 has a pretty good built-in guard.

Camillus Dominator- nice fipper that acts as a great guard, assisted opening, ti handles and S30V blade all for under $150.

since you list customs...geeze...where to begin...

Non-flippers:

Carson E&E
Crawford Carnivore
Crawford Perfigo
Crawford Perseca
Crawford KFF
Crawford Wortac
MOD CQD
Terzuola ATCF
Valloton subhilt (this one has a real subhilt!!)

Flippers:

Boguszewski Cobra
Carson M16
Crawford Quickdraw
Duncan Aftershock
Elishewitz
JWS FRC
Lion Mah/Larry Davidson Dreadnought
Tighe Tighephoon

and probably dozens of others...

Folks have already mentioned the Camillus Dominator and the CRKT M16 and M18 series knives. The Kershaw Boa and their new Bump also have flipper/guards.

Then we get to my favorites! :D

Camillus makes three outstanding knives that feature double guards.

Note: Aftermaths come from the factory with a grey background, not blue.

They all have 5-1/2" D2 blades, titanium frames, and framelocks. You can't get much better than these if you want a fighting folder.

the best grip on any knife i have is my crawford perfigo or kasper, the way the handle is shaped makes for a very secure grip.

thanks big time for the feedback guys.

i checked all of those out, and i've fallen in love with the terzuola atcf.. now i gotta find out if i can get one in leftie.

i also like the sebenza, but i gotta feel one in the flesh, cuz it doesn't look too securely grippy in pictures.. and it's design is almost tooooo simple/borderline boring, but it's got a charm about it, no doubt.

funnily enough, i chose against the ATCF because of its lack of sufficient front guard.

just about any production emerson (except the '7) will have a good front/index guard. commander, I&I tanto, specwar, socfk, sark, mach1.

benchmade's afck is good b/c of the axis, but its guard is not as prominent.

also you can try the strider sng/ar/gb series. the ar/gb is very fine for this.

I'll second the Boa.
Actually, alot of Ken Onion's knives have a flipper/guard.
He has his own website with knives that will make you drool!

BTW, I don't think I've seen a Sebenza with a guard?

Good luck,
Allen.

The Commander has been mentioned, but it deserves a second. By far Emerson makes some of the most ergonomic handles out there.
