......Looks kine like ironwood to me messy...Got a nice little "burl-like" look to it on the right scale too...

Yes, Ironwood. I really like how it turned out. I'm thinking of having the blade bead blasted. What do you all think? What blade treatment should I get?

Chad

I thought it looked like walnut...but I'm no squirrel.

As for the bead blasting? I'd leave it as is.

Purdee knife Chad :)
Musky rocks.

That ironwood has some nice contrast, you're a lucky fellow Chad. You know, muskratman was recently banned for some reason, but he's still doing alot of knife work.

I only have two ironwood knives (both 889LE as seen here: http://mongoose.smugmug.com/photos/157005231-L-1.jpg) and the grain looks totally different than Chad's scales. Which, BTW, I totally think are great.

Musky was was banned for posting his work here.
Peeps liked it and contacted him for work (including a couple of pieces from me). I can't recall him ever saying to contact him in a post soliciting work.
Mods took it as he was "advertisting".
Gave him the boot.
I think it is amongst the stupidist things I have heard of here.
Musky was a true asset to this forum given his knowledge and helpful replies. I will continue to utilize his skills so the the mod accomplished nothing but pissing me off by booting a true contributor to our knowledge base.

I keep in mind that I only have one perspective on the Musky gig, but that, the "chatting" gig that was taken out of context, getting demerits for posting that I got a good deal on a forum posted purchase in the FOR SALE thread, and keeping me from voicing my opinions about China are cumultive reasons why I am no longer a Gold member.

Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.
And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.

Goose ,there are others who feel the same way. When the Gold runs:barf: out it's back to Blue.;)

OK, guys, my last thread got moved because of these kinda comments. :)

On topic, I asked him to make sure most of the grain of the Ironwood is running the length of the knife. He listened well. It actually sent me a pic of the wood piece he was going to cut my scales from and asked me if this is what I was looking for. He did an excellent job.

Peace,
Chad

If it's a closet queen that never gets used, it will look sweet... :) but the bead blasting shows scratches really well on a user... :(

(Plus you will need to re-sharpen it after blasting)

...My $.02...

Yep, excellent job.
I asked him about the ironwood Chad and he says he can do more.
Thinking another Buck of mine will be sent his way for that!
Now I gotta figure out which one :)

Whirled Peas...

Pao Ferro is Portuguese for 'iron wood', which is a common name for a number of different species of hardwoods, including at least one in the American southwest. The light dark variant - as seen in revolver grips, pistol grip panels, and those beautiful Alpha scales is the most common variant - and it is Brazilian, like nearly half of the world's 4,500+ species of trees. Another variation is even tighter grained and darker - often finding use in pier pilings in a harbor.

I have been a woodworker for, well, a lot longer than I've had Buck knives. I love working with tropical hardwoods - especially Mexican Bocote and Honduran Cocobolo, although everyone eventually becomes allergic to the latter's dust - some even violently so. Lots of neat choices for beautiful scales! Those are nice - you should indeed be proud.

Thanks for all the great comments. I have to say that this will not be a closet queen. I did order a leather sheath so that the nylon doesn't wear on the wood. I'm pretty excited. So excited I need to get a Durado so I can get a matching pair.

Co-inky-dinky about the Dorado comment Chad.

Just placed a scale order for a 112 with "Chad Ironwood".

And, while I was at it, a 271 Rosie Dorado with Koa.

Thanks for the cool pics of inspiration :)

Hey Buck,
How about throwing me that Dorado as a Thank You? :)

Well, maybe he could call it the Chad Ironwood Treatment (CIT).. That would be sweet...

Gotta save a few pennies to get my Dorado.

Peace,
Chad

So I'm looking at getting a Dorado, and a Hunter as the first Buck knives for me. I plan on one of each and was wondering about scales for at least one of them. May I ask who to contact and the approximate cost?

Looks very good Chad! You are making the Bucks head up on my list of knives to acquire with the photos! I think I only need 15 or so now.

I have been reading here a lot, still learning about Buck knives so I've been staying quiet so as to not show my ignorance too badly. :D

EDIT - Well, that didn't take too long did it!
