Folding Enzo Trapper (or other Scandi?)

Hello all,
Still looking for the perfect blade to bring on my son's scouting trips. I confirmed with his Troop that they are a "no fixed blade" troop.(not inviting the great debate though!) I recently got a mel pardu (sp?) griptilian, and enjoy it as an edc, but I can't seem to carve wood with it like I can with my beloved enzo trapper. Any suggestions for something in a folder as close to my trapper as possible? Carbon preferred, but not a deal breaker. Thanks, William

i really enjoy my enzo. its a very sturdy knife and has a razor edge. it did suffer a little chipping but after sharpening it twice no problems.

Plenty of nice large folders out there that fit the bill, I would gravitate towards the Fallkniven PXL as a folding Bushy.

As a fellow Enzo fan though, I'm anxiously awaiting the Enzo Folder that's in the works!

Emerson A-100...perfect outdoor folder and has the chisel grind, not exactly like a scandi, but does an amazing job at wood carving.

I too am a little partial towards Emerson's blades. Yeah, they have the "tactical" names, but have functioned quite well for me in the field of duty and play. For my recreational outdoors, I really like the A100 and CQC10. I would like to eventually get a Scandi grind on both...

I'm still looking for pretty much the same thing. I had started a thread a few weeks ago about woods folders. I think you might have posted in that thread? I was leaning towards the a-100 until I realized Emerson hates lefties. I ended up picking up a Spyderco D'allara. It has a very full handle (for a folder) and a nice big curved blade, but it's hollow ground. I haven't decide if I'm going to stick with it or keep looking. I also feel bad using it since it's a collector. I want to find a original manix and give that a try. That thing looks like it's built like a tank.

How's about something from EKA...keep it Scandi ;)

The Swede 8, 10, 82, 88. Great knives, with superb build quality and great Sandvik 12C27 steel.

Here's my Swede 88 in Masur...good luck finding one as tasty as this though :p This undoubtedly my favorite folder.

I'd avoid the Falkie PXL unless you REALLY need to build your lads pitching arm up! lol! Its a beast....and waaaaaaaay too heavy for a folder...IMHO.

EDIT: Doh! Just clicked on CRR's post! Great minds ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions. The knife will be for ME, not my little scout!!! Not too concerned with size. Also, I love scandi, but I'm open to other blades. I just would like a folder that's as good (or nearly) as my Enzo Trapper at carving, feather sticks, etc. Maybe (probably) it's my lack of skill, but my Grip that I have doesn't seem to carve very well, though gets very sharp. The Enzo is a joy as a carver. I guess I should have simply asked for the absolute best folding carver ever made in history!!!!! And it's gotta have a sharp 90 degree spine for striking a ferro rod. Oh, and it's gotta be robust enough for an occassional rap while batonning! Easy, huh?

In that case, Opinels are excellent folders as well. Hard beech handles, locking blade, good for starters.... Not expensive at all...

Fallkniven also makes the TK4, one that I've been wanting for a bit...

Ah...well, Maybe the Swede 8 or 10 out of all of those EKA's. Nice sharp spine (iirc) and pretty thick. Not a fan of battoning folders though...but I'm sure it could cope.

The svord peasant knife is a beast for the price. Not really a scandi (at all) but for the price you could easily regrind it...i wouldnt but to each his own. I actually just got one from bens. It is a steel edged lazer beam.

Opinel #12 ! It is kind of big, but the long blade makes it good for light batoning. In spite of it's size, it is still quite light. Might want to carry it in a belt sheath though, as opposed to your pocket.
