Does anyone know the difference between the Buck Tru Blue 539 and the 549 Fishlocker fillet knives? They appear to be the same picture wise. If there is a difference I haven't noticed it...thanks

The 539 was initially a Sawby lock than due to safety problems it was changed into a lockback.
I am not sure what if any the difference is between the 539 and the 549 though.

Earliest 539 versions had the Sawby lock and were called the TruBlue Fish Fillet Knife. Than they changed it to a lockback.
Than the latest version was the 549 Fishlocker with a grey handle and later in black. I don't see any difference other that the number and name. Maybe a name change for recognition purposes.

The Tru-Blue had a steel frame with rubber overmold while the Fishlocker is single shot plastic handles. World of difference in the weight between those 2.

I have used both and i always have the 549s in my backcountry pack. The light weight is ideal compared to the rubber handled 539 which is a great knife, but better on your boat
