Folding Hunter for hunting???

I use a 110 Folding Hunter as my everyday belt knife, but have never taken it hunting. I have always used a fixed blade knife for gutting and skinning game. I'm really curious how many 110 owners actually use their knife on game?

If any of you use a 110 for dressing game, how do you clean the fat, blood, and hair out of the knife?

Best regards,
Tim

I'm surprised there have been no answers. I have a 110 (couple actually) and I it makes a fine "day-in-the-woods" knife but I have never used one in deer hunting. I will probably always have a fixed blade for that. Having said that, the sturdiness and the ergonomics of the 110 make it much more suitable to use on a deer than any other folder I have.

Since the 110 is stainless, I'd take it down to the creek and swish it out as best I could. If you're really ambitious, you could warm some water and use that. Then I'd have a quick go at it (after it dried) with an oil patch and would not worry much more about it.

Just my opinion.

I have often found that using warm soapy water works pretty good to clean out the 110. The soap makes sure you get the fat off of the knife which can make a knive act dull.

I also like to wipe it down with some kind of oil.

I've used the 110 for dressing Elk, Deer and numerous little pesky Javelina. It has never failed and still resides on my right hip every hunting season since the Aug, 1968 purchase in La Mesa, Ca. Hell, I even remember the price I paid for the knife, $18.50 at Sportland. Anyhow, the knife cleans with a little hot water and if really dirty a cutip or a rag down between the liners. The Buck Oil that came with the sharpening kit, now since long gone, and which I always thought was nothing more than ATF, was sufficient to coat the blade with oil. Other than that, the knife is still my companion during every huntin season...

I use a selector for cleaning game and it does get the job done, I can clean about 8 axis deer before it needs sharpening. as for cleaning of the knife I just soak it for a while then with a sponge wipe it down.

I also prefer fixed blades for hunting chores. However, I have used a older pair of folding hunters (110 & 112) to field dress many deer. Even skinned a few though I have the excellant Buck Skinner.

I always used very hot water from the tap, (held the knife by the tip of the blade with a washcloth) and dawn or equivelant. The hot water and dawn would remove fat best. Then WD-40 to disperse water and then lube the action with CRC or CLP (Breakfree) and motor oil the blade.

Through many rough years the knives function flawlessly. My som now uses the 112 camping and that old 110 is still my favorite knife even though I have a drawerful, including a Sebenza.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd give my 2 cents worth.

I've used my 110 for years field dressing deer. Always works great. Just use hot water to clean it and dry it and then oil it will.

Of the group of deer hunters I hunt with in Southeastern Ohio most use folding lockblades. One uses a 112 and others use non-Buck lockblades. Only one uses a fixed blade knife.

I'm looking for a fixed blade hunter now. Tried a 105 but didn't care for it.
