Are there any companies that still make the folding hunter pattern in carbon steel? I've seen that Case still makes it, but only in their SS, as well as the 'new' Schrade. I can't think of any other companies that might make it.

You can still find the Cold Steels that were made in Carbon V. You just need to hunt online and watch the auction sites. I love mine, it is well made, sharpens very nicely, and holds a great edge.

Cold Steel made the 2 blade Classic as well, just google Cold Steel "Classic 2 Blade Hunter"

Other than Cold Steel (couldn't find anything with a search), anybody else?

I'm not sure how fussy you are about EXACTLY matching the pattern, but Great Eastern uses 1095 carbon steel in their Tidioute line. Their #23 Pioneer model is similar to a folding hunter:

(Oh and you might check the auction sites for a Schrade Old Timer Folding Hunter #25OT. I see them from time to time and they were 1095 also)

Boker makes a nice folding hunter in 1095. You can still find decent Schrade 125OT's (1095 also, as long as they're not marked "SCHRADE+") for sale if you're patient.

Boker, bottom right. Schrade, bottom left:

I know of one in 1095 carbon 5 1/4" closed Here. S & M has 2 or 3 in their past year knives, I believe them to be Stainless.. They are all avaliable at the site mentioned, I believe ?

Look for Bulldog branded knives and Weidsmansheil too, both are carbon steel models. Queen makes their #39 two blader and #44 one blade in D2 steel, as already mentioned. You can also find a bunch of the Boker hunters with carbon steel; some are 440C; both I have seen available with wood, bone or stag handles. I live close to PG Quicks knife shop in Cullman county AL and I have seen several there. I have one of the Weidsmansheils in stag, nice knives. Gobs of older Cases available via ebay and knife shows too, you might look for one of those; I found a 6265 pattern Case at a flea market a year or so ago, a USA tang stamp on a XX frame with lanyard hole in great shape, so they can still be found out and about.

I bought a Kabar 1184 on a well know auction site. It's a nice, affordable example of the type of knife you are looking for.

Your best bet would be to look for the old Schrade 25OT on auction sites. You can look for old Case two-blade Hunters, but they'll pretty expensive.

thx - cpr

I must admit I like the looks of the Boker version, especially in stag.

Wasn't there a comparison between the Boker Folding hunter and a Case Folding hunter on this site not too long ago?

My Dad has an old Boker model 2020 and from what I've seen of his it would be hard to beat....I would highly recommend one of them, they come in various handle types.

Also if you would consider a locking blade, the good old Buck 110 is hard to beat, it's HC or high carbon steel, a tried and true knife.

I concur with the Schrade recommendation:thumbup:

25OT

125OT

They are cheaper than the old Case XX "folding hunters"
Orca is right.....

I'm actually keeping an eye on a couple of Schrade's on an auction site right now. If they end up going too high, then I'll probably lean toward one of the Bokers.
