Any other fans of this pattern out there?

Not the Buck 110 folding hunter, but the 2-blade behemoth.
I have a nice old one, Schrade 25OT. Love the size and feel of it, especially since I have big hands. Also have a couple ebay bids out there for a couple users (a Ka-Bar and a Case).

Who else has these and likes 'em? Which makers do you have?
...anybody else have the Old Timer?

Peace.

I have two 25OT's and a varient, the 225OT. The 225OT has a locking saw blade instead of the skinning blade. Its a very nice tool for the woods. I also have 3 copies of the single blade model, the 1250T. Its probably my favorite knife, or at least my fav large folder. You should pick up a nice one off ebay if you can, worth the money.

I've been wanting a folding hunter for my rotaton for a while. This weekend I scored this Schrade-Walden advertising Folding Hunter.

Advertised as mint, and for being at least 32 years old it sure looks like it. Should be here by the end of the week.

I've been admiring folding hunters for some time and plan to try to get one off the ebay. I have a question--I have the Schrade OT 125, it is a great knife and it has a liner lock. I notice that the folding hunters don't have any lock. For those of you that own them, it that ever a problem? I would hate to have one of those big blades close on me when I was using it.

pickupman...
A few of the original folding hunters, the ones I like to say Buck blew out of the water and made obsolete with the 110, had simple brass 'push here' liner-type locks like your 125OT. But back in those days, a person was just expected to know how to use a folding knife (that had no lock). Although locks of one kind or another have been around for a long, long time, most knives 'back then' didnt have them. What they did have was strong backsprings. Although I've been hunting & knife owning since I was a kid, I don't think I owned a locking blade knife until I was in my thirties (age fiftyfour now). Yep, I had a mishap as we all did as kids, but it was with a very dull old 'Kamp King' that didn't do much damage. We learned quick after the first time how to use a non-locking knife.

Here's two of my favorites from the Imperial 'Frontier' Series, the Boone and Crockette commemoratives.

That's about what I figured. You've just got to have a little more finesse to use a slip joint and keep in mind that you don't have a lock--whether it is a 3" stockman or a big folding hunter..

Funny, we were just talking about these over at the Schrade forum.

Here are a few "well used" examples that I own, and show that Case, Kabar, and Schrade all made these beasts...

The singles had liner locks (usually) , the doubles didn't. Phil is right, though. They did have prett stout and beefy springs.

BTW Phil, showing off your showrooms pieces again??? :D

Okay, I'm jealous :(

Love those big old folders, I honestly do. Thanks for showing them Glenn.

I think I'd like a Case/Lowe's blue bone one. Have to look next time I'm at Lowes to see if they have one.

Yep, my study looks exactly like an Imperial-Frontier showroom.

Thanks for bringing up this great knife pattern as a topic.

Phil

Ahhh, I see it now....

(Glenn's house) Glenn: Family, we're going on vacation!

Family: Yeah! where? Disneyworld?? Hawaii?? Aruba???

Glenn: No way! Better than that...Phil's house!

Family: ???

:p

I have a Frontier Powderhorn, Sabre, Explorer, Queen, Colonial, Schrade, OT, UH, Case XX....and most probably a few more...these are one of my favorite style of folders, are most certainly addictive...

Not having seen one in the real, does Case's mid folding hunters that are currently offered have a liner lock?

Finally got a picture of mine, a three dot (1977) Case 6165-L, single blade lock back, stainless blade:
