I'm itching for a new knife. I've got a quite a few from spyderco, benchmade and CRK. I've been looking for another titanium framelock-ish knife of mediumish size. I may end up going with another sebenza, but I wanted to look at a few others first.

Hinderers look cool, but availability and cost sucks.

From what I've read about Strider, I'll likely stay away from his stuff.

I don't have any ZTs, so I'd consider those.

Any other manufacturers I should be checking out? This knife will likely see use as my EDC.

PS: I have a thing for carbon fiber and blue knives.

My suggestion is one of the Hinderer designed ZT's just based off of your likes. They run cheaper, and they have a bigger company behind them (ZT/KAI/) and are easier to find than Hinderers.

I've never played with a CR product, so I can't comment on their quality, but the ZT product that I have is good. I've been lusting after one of the hinderer ZT's, but they are too rich for my blood.

Lionsteel might make something you like too......

Go to a fine cutlery, you will most likely avoid Zt, it is very bulky and short bladed.

lately I have been hearing about mcusta and Emerson being great, dont have any myself but I will take the time to go handle some when I have time.

In that range you could get a custom. Post your thoughts in the services wanted section. You'll get some good responses.

With respect to Strider...don't pass them by. One of the very best. Do you want a great folder, or a political discussion?
ZT's are nice; many sizes, styles, blade-steels available easily in your price range.
CRK's are the standard of "production" excellence, according to repeated annual Blade Show "Manufacturers" awards. You can buy them plain or in carbon fiber or "prettied up" beyond belief from the nice folks at the factory.
Hard to go wrong.
Carbon fiber is available in most. If not, get 3rd party. Also, lots of folks here can turn your titanium a nice blue or other.
Now, you GO!

For five bills id get a custom.

My Bluephin from pohan leu was 550.

If you like his style then consider it...top notch f&f and he can do a lot of cf an Anodize blue if you want.

Its also a nice change if pace, something different than the usual crk, Hinderer, strider blah blah blah and it'll out perform all of them.

There are a lot of other custom makers in that price range that'll beat out any production folder in that range in quality by a mile.

Contact Alan Davis or Tobin Smith and put in an order. You should be able to get exactly what you want for that price range.

If you can go up a little more ($600 max) you can get into something from Lambert, John W. Smith, Chuck Gedraitis, Vagnino, Laconico among many many many many others.

+1 for Tobin smith: great guy that makes some amazing blades for good prices. I have one in my pocket right now:)
Another custom maker to think about would be Marty young. He also makes great knives for the money and he works with many different steels. I just got a carbon fiber warncliff folder in LSCF and premium steel for under $400.

Not sure what you mean the 0600,0777,0560 is short bladed ?

Chris reeves knives all day, many different options to suit your needs.

I have said it before, and i'll say it again... GET A ZERMENO AZRAEL!!

I can't recommend it enough. That man makes $1000 knives and sells them at the cost of a Benchmade production knife
