Hello! I'm new to these forums and this is my very first post, might even be my last. I'm not really a collector, I'm just looking for a very solid, high quality, long lasting folding knife, something that I can carry around on a daily basis, but also something sleek and stylish. Price does not really concern me right now (probably won't go much higher than $400 though). I've recently acquired the Cold Steel Steel Tiger karambit which I am enjoying very much, and other than that I've just got the Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival knife, and some crappy little John Deere folder :P I want something small and compact and, dare I say it, easily concealable, but also durable and combat-ready if possible. I've been doing a lot of research, and have been looking at Emerson's CQC series. I've also been interested in the CRKT Heiho (I know it's cheaper quality, but I really love the tanto-folder look) and also the Spyderco Harpy, but I'm no expert on knives. I just want a trusty tool/companion that I can carry around at all times, and also use in a self-defense situation (I've been mugged at knifepoint a few times in the past). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. NOTE: I go up and stay in Canada a lot, so as much as I would love to get a balisong or a push-dagger, it's not really an option for me

One of the mods will be along to move this thread to the general forum, since none of the knives you mention (with the possible exception of the John Deere folder) are the kind of knives we discuss in this sub-forum, but good luck finding what you're looking for.

Oh, sorry. That John Deere's actually been a pretty damn good little tool. Well worth the $20 i spent on it 6 years ago

Zero Tolerance 0700 might be what you're looking for. Its the top one.

I appreciate all the input. I've got my eye on Benchmade's 15030 Bone Collector Axis Mini-Folder (gotta love that name, Bone Collector). I've heard a lot of good things about Spyderco, but I don't really like the look of most of their knives :/ maybe it's just me..

Alot of people think spydercos dont look right then they buy one and cant stop buying them, myself included :D they make some of the most comfortable knives to hold

Dude, you've been mugged at knife point several times? Sounds like you should get a CCL. If you are willing to go up to $400 for a folder, I'd probably get a Sebenza and be done with it. If you are really concerned about SD, I suggest have someone on her make you a custom fixed blade edc.

I've narrowed it down to either Spyderco's Paramilitary 2 or Benchmade's Onslaught. Which is better? Also, serrations or not serrations?

The PM2 is very popular at the moment, so may as well start with that. I am a newbie too & had no intention of "collecting", but once the bug hits you will be trying many different ones. I started with lower end Spydercos/Byrds/Ontario/Kershaw & now I have ventured into ZT/CRK/Strider. I really want to stop, but 40+ knives & counting thanks to this forum lol.
