Folding knife thin enough to carry in a wallet but large enough to remain useful?

Hey! (First post, yay!...)

Ok so I've been looking for a nice small knife to keep in the picture section (I guess you could call it that) of my wallet. It's the area behind where you keep the credit cards. I'd like a knife that is thin enough as to not cause an uncomfortable lump/bulge in the wallet (it's thick enough :D ) but at the same time not to small as to not be useful. It obviously won't be a defensive knife, but more of a "If I ever needed a knife" knife. I carry matches just incase I ever need them, but I don't smoke. I have enough stuff as it is in my pockets so carrying around one of my full sized folders wouldn't cut it (no pun intended). Also keeping the knive in my wallet would be a little more discrete then carrying it on a keychain.

I've been looking at knives the size of a CRKT KISS, but I've heard the KISS could be unreliable. I've also been looking at the SOG Access card but that doesn't seem to be able to put up with some real abuse. I'm looking for something that can take a bit of abuse if neccesary and open fast if need be. It sounds like I'm searching for the holy grail, lol.

At this point I'll take any help you guys can offer!

THANKS!

I believe spyderco used to make such a knife, you could probably find it on ebay, it was called the spydercard or something similar. Spydercos are renouned for both of the categories you suggest, durability and ease of opening. A question though - how fast is 'as fast as can be' if you have to pull the knife out of your wallet? What do you dislike about a 'normal' pocketknife?

I have nothing against a normal pocketknife, it just takes up room and I don't use it everyday. I own many folding knives (and many fixed blade knives) but carrying them becomes tedious. Something small enough to leave in a wallet seems to be perfect for me. If I ever started to EDC a full size knife then my CRKT M1 Lightfoot would be clipped to my pocket.

Thanks for the replies guys!

EDIT: That spydercard is pretty awesome. Basically what I'm looking for, I might have to pick one up.

Hi Jvisco.

Spyderco's "byrd" brand (a lower cost alternative to Spyderco models designed and produced by Spyderco) has a byrd version of the Spydercard coming out in about a month. The Bradichansky design was modified. It's a little smaller, more rounded ergos, lighter. Still all steel and quite robust for its thin nature. 8Cr13MoV stainless blade.

(Sorry for the shameless plug :o )

There are some Titanium credit card knives floating around. They're exactly as they sound, a card shaped piece of Ti with an edge. But i really think a Spyderco or Sog would be right up your alley. Victorinox makes Swisscards, that have a blade as well as some other gadgets, they're good tools but probably not quite what you're looking for.

Whoa , that's some good news ! I cant wait to see all the goodies comin out next year :D
Thanks Sal.

Esav , quoting the Ramones again ?? :D :D

I'M HENRY THE VIII, I AM

I'm Henry the eighth I am
Henry the eighth I am, I am
I got married to the widow next door
She's been married seven times before
And every one was an Henry (Henry)
She wouldn't have a Willy or a Sam (no Sam)
I'm her eighth old man, I'm Henry
Henry the eighth I am

Second verse same as the first

I'm Henry the eighth I am
Henry the eighth I am, I am
I got married to the widow next door
She's been married seven times before
And every one was an Henry (Henry)
She wouldn't have a Willy or a Sam (no Sam)
I'm her eighth old man, I'm Henry
Henry the eighth I am

I know there are a few cridet card tools out on the market with knife blades, but I'm not too familiar with them... Since you mentioned the KISS, I did have a Gerber Ridge? a few years back for EDC. Same concept as the KISS, and it was one stout knife! Not the hardest blade steel, but I think I lost that S.O.B. 3 or 4 times without it breaking, everywhere from a stone supply yard to on-the-job cutting trees. If I was looking for a tiny lockback, I would not hesitate to go with that knife again; hell, it was a better knife than my current gerberS!

P.S. wanna trade 2 gerbers for a spydie?

It's a toss up between the Gerber Ridge, Spydercard, Sog Acess card, Boker Subcom, and a possibly a Nemesis Ti card. Such a hard choice.

Anybody have some good reviews on either of the first 4?

Thanks!

EDIT: Damn it, I just stumbled upon the Spyderco Lava and It's a choice now too. Crap...

Of the first 4, I would consider the Subcom to be the only real knife. The Lava looks good, but I haven't had a chance to handle it. Coincidentally, it was designed by the same man who designed the Subcom.

The Spydercard is actually a decent cutting tool. But it's not as suited for extensive use.

spydercard is my constant companion , in so far that i keep forgetting that i have a knife in my wallet , i just dump my wallet in the tray, and continue after the security check, and then remember the knife.:o

I would consider buying the new Byrd card knife

You might also look at this.....it's small enough to go on a key chain but tough enough for defense.

Actually the sentences are reversed,,,it's about the same knife.......been Christmas shopping...It's late...I'm tired.....My links suck.....and any other excuse I can think of ...lol...I'll try to post before bed time from now on....I have to get my meds from the orderly now....LOL

No problem. Website identified. :)

I really don't think that adding a slim knife to a wallet is ever going to be comfortable. I certainly couldn't make it work.
How about a small, light knife that's basically scratch-proof so it can sit in your pocket along with keys, change, etc? Fallkniven U2. And great steel as well.
