I apologize for sounding silly beforehand, 'm not sure I'm using the right terms.
I'm looking for a small folding knife with a safety lock? in the handle. something that's under 8 inches, and has a smal lip in the handle to keep it from being opened without being released prior. Assist open would be a big plus.
I'd appreciate if it were sub with shipping 40$. (the less the better, to be honest) Doesn't have to be special or spring steel or anything.

I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section for this, I spend about 20 minutes deliberting where this should go. the forum layout is a bit confusing for me, being new and all.

Kershaw Leek with 440A or 13C26 blade steel you can find under $40.

With better S30V blade steel should be in $60-80 range.

They have a safety lock
Blade length: 3 inches
Closed length: 4 inches
Weight: 3 ounces

Welcome to the forums!
Kershaw makes some really good assisted openers, such as the; leek, chive, and the scallion. More of kershaw assisted knives can be found here. I would stay away from SOG for folders as they tend to have lots of blade play. Also there is the Spyderco Tenacious or Persistence which would be my top recommendation, but they are not assisted. I dont know if you already know this - Don't buy direct from the manufacturer or in a store as it will be more expensive.
Hope this helps

Thanks a bunch guys, you really replied quick.
I'm doting on the Kershaw Leek, though I cant find any images with the safety mechanism showing. If I don't have a safety lock on the knife, I can't legally carry it. If you guys say it has one, I'll take your word for it though. I'll make the purchase in the morning if nothing else comes along.
Thanks again!

The SOG Aegis, Trident and Flash I/Flash II all fit that description.
spring assist with safety. relatively inexpensive.

Some people say to stay away from SOG, but I own all three knives and they are excellent. The trident especially. And it has taken a lot of abuse.

The lock on the leek is on the back side, down at the bottom. It slides forward and blocks the blade from coming out.

Okay, thanks for the reassurance.
I'm from New York- any knife that's over 8 inches or can be interpreted as a tool to harm another person (dagger, stilleto, etc) is illegal. Also, if it's a gravity knife or one you can flick open, is also illegal. I find a lot of use for blades in my daily chores, and I don't want something I have to run home and drop off every time I need to go somewhere.
I've found a leek for 28$ with shipping, and I'm gonna grab it later today.

I should warn you, you are probably not going to have much luck with a leek in NY.
The leek is spring assisted and will probably be deemed illegal in your state

CRKT makes some assisted knives with a lock that is integrated into the thumb stud where you have to depress the stud a certain way before the knife will open. Benchmade makes a few assisted models with separate locks. I would rather have a non-assisted knife than an assisted knife with a lock.
