I'm looking for a new sub-$100 folder, would like some recommendations. Some sub-$100 folders I already own and love include the Benchmade Mini Grip, Spyderco Endura, and Ontario RAT-1. I'm looking for solid quality and design to cost ratio, much like the knives I mentioned. If the cost is a little over $100, that's ok, as long as I like it enough, I'm not making the $100 mark a total dead end.

Well Case and GEC and Queen all make sub $100 knives that are first rate, but by the knives you've got listed I think you're in the wrong forum

They should be within your price range, may I be the first to suggest you look t the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and Manix 2. Both are held in very high regard around here.

Edit: Oops yeah did you want only traditional folders..?

No, I put this in the wrong forum, how can I move it?

Folders under a 100 bucks covers a lot of ground. I'd recommend going to some of the site sponsor's on-line sites, and doing a search by price--and see what you like. One idea I would throw out there though, is look around on the exchange here, and see if you can pick up a ZT 770, you should be able to find one for a little over the 100 mark. Super knife, Assisted opening, great blade steel and lightweight, which makes for a great EDC, plus it's ZT quality!

Buck 830 Marksman, Kizer 4403, H&K 14715, or, if you can find one, a Manix 2 Lightweight in S110V. All of those are pretty fantastic values in your price range.

Well, I'm looking for something in the same general classification as the knives I named: a modern folder, blade of at least 3-ish to no more than 4 inches, if that helps. I think the ZT 770 is a good representation of what I'm looking for because it meets those guidelines and has a design that would be unique to my current collection, which is also of some importance.

Those are good, I really like the Kizer 4403, and that's a knife that I probably wouldn't have found looking on my own. Thanks.

I was at a heavy equipment truck parts supplier the other day and watched a backroom worker suddenly produce what looked like a folding Bowie knife in order to open a mere cardboard box. This took me aback by quite a bit even though I use my pocket SAK Spartan all the time to do the very same things. I don't doubt that he was proud of his particular knife but the 'quickly opened and huge' blade sure surprised me. WTF do you do with a thing like this aside from scare people, cut string, open boxes and pretend to be ready to field-dress a moose?
Get yourself a SAK and then enjoy having truly useful and non-confrontational items like screwdrivers/awl/can/bottle openers etc etc on hand besides a non-locking cutting/slicing blade.

Personally, I find it exceptionally handy to be able to quickly open a knife, make a cut, close it and put it away in only a couple of seconds. WTF would you want something that you have to dig around in your pocket for, takes much more concentration to open and won't hold an edge for longer than a day of use? Are you pretending to be MacGyver with all those extraneous gadgets?

Okay, honestly, I like SAKs and modern folders, just trying to illustrate the point that there are disadvantages and misconceptions about either.

I have to agree. I've carried SAKs before and virtually never used anything other than the blade. It's far more important to be able to quickly and easily access that blade.

+2 on the ZT 0770. I've seen the aluminum one on sale for around $120 new.
If you want something a little more traditional style, check out the Al Mar Eagle and Falcon ultra light, they're around the $100 mark too.

Good luck!!!

There are a lot of good choices for you, and going a bit under or over 100 you can tailor your choices by figuring out what you want; for example, g10 scales, a certain lock, what size blade, style of clip... Under 100, if you like the endura, I'd have to suggest a delica; pretty much a 3 inch endura and tough as nails. As mentioned above, the paramilitary 2 is a great knife (between 3 and 4 inch blade), and might be worth a little extra money if you dig the style, lock, and steel. They are great knives. The other knife I would suggest is the sage1. I love the sage 2 because for me, the wire clip is great and it is just the right size to be small but useful. The 2 is a bit more, but you might be able to find a sage 1 (3 inch )around 100. s30v blade, liner lock, and if you don't have any Taiwan made Spyderco's, the fit and finish (in my experience) is really great and worth trying. If you want an assisted knife, I paid under 100 for a Kershaw shallot in damascus. Don't have any ZT knives yet, but if you can stretch to one and want something solid, that seems like a good choice as well. Good luck picking one..
