I think that is just your perception of the appearance. MOST (not all) custom folder makers make their parts one at a time all by themselves. The ones that dont get them built on a cnc by various machine shops.

Look for design and style in the maker . Some are different and keep moving ahead.
Tom is right . Most of my parts are made by me. I dont make the screws and pivot parts.
I design them to my look, style, sizes and have them made. I like the tolerence to be within .0002. I feel the customer gets a better knife this way. I just dont have the machinery to build them that close .
The rest is all done here in my shop most often.
I try to change the the pivots and thumbers once a year as I bring out new models.
This keeps the designs fresh and different than anyone elses. I also thrive on being different enought in the design that they are hard to copy.

Brad,
I have 4 different model folders. Model 4, Model 16, Model 16 Flipper, and the Model 21. Each are band sawed and hand ground. Same pattern for each but each are different.
It's usually in the makers "style" that makes them look the same.

Yes thats what i thought, but i wasnt sure so i had to ask....
thanks to the quick reply from some of the best in the business...
back to grinding....
