I currently carry a variety of Benchmade and CRKT folders. I am interested in some high end folders. I know of strider and Chris Reeves. who else makes high end folders and what are your preferences? Anyone specializing in damascus steel? i know little about this steel.. what are it's characteristics?

Thanks in Advance!!

If you're ready for high end stuff, and you like damascus, you might want to start looking into customs. There are some people around who make some very nice stuff indeed.

Also, have a look on the A. G. Russell website. Some interesting stuff there too.

Have a look in the Custom & Handmade sub forum too.

There are several good knife makers out there. Rick Hinderer knives are very nice but there is also Kirby Lambert, Mayo, Crawford, Lightfoot, ECT. Those are just a few of the many good knife makers. Any would be a good choice. The Hinderer XM18 has become on of the most popular and is one tough folder. Good Luck! Kevin :D

Apart from its decorative value, I have not seen any performance benefits to a 'damascus' blade over a well made blade in a modern steel.

In production folders, CRK knives set the benchmark against which all other knives are judged. He offers damascus models. If you get one and decide to sell it on you should have buyers queing up.

I believe that McCusta's 'damascus' is actually 'layered steel' and not a true damascus - happy to be corrected on this. While elegant, IMO McCusta's (linerlock) are not as strong or classy as the Paul Axial-lock knives from Lone Wolf - a highly under-rated desiign that is gradually getting the attention it deserves

I have a Bob Dozier folding hunter I like. My next folder is going to be a sebenza.

For nice production folding knives. You could go with Mcusta for Damascus, Bladetech ( PH is my current EDC and the S30V is perfect ), Emerson, Queen Cutlery or Moki for traditional, the list is really quite long but these are off the top of my head favs.

If you can find one on the 2ndary market, or if he has one or more made, a Dozier Folder is incredible.

Chris Reeve makes the Sebenza in a variety of beautiful damascus steels; New Graham had several in stock the other day.

Also, if you're looking at high-end production folders, the Burke Pro Rockstar is an excellent new entry to the market.

All the other famous names have been said---Strider, Crawford, Lamber, Hinderer. In this section, you can't go wrong with any of them.
