Recently came across this, not sure if I am allowed to say where. But I thought that it looked rather interesting. Just wondering if anyone here has one or has any experiances with one. Here is the information that I gleaned from the description:

That is one of the Woods Knife folders. I've two Woods Knife straight blade puukko and find them well made. Haven't gotten the $$$ yet for a folder. They are mostly sold thru Cloudberry in the US; either on their site or ebay. See my Nordic knife links page below for their URLs;

Cheers for the info mate, I didn't know what brand that they were so much appreciated. I'll have to check out cloudberry and do some reading on woodsknife.

Yep, Merimaa / Woods Knife that one. I've only handled one at a fair last summer but it seemed quite allright. There's often questions about folding puukkos and who makes them, but one needs to keep in mind that folders aren't really that big a thing in Finland. And a puukko by definition is a fixed blade, a folding version is a bit of a curiosity and specialty.

Pekka Tuominen / Puukkopekka has made some custom folders, he's posted a few times on BF too.

Moving this over to "General" for further discussion. It's a bit out of our Traditional Forum parameters due to some of its characteristics. Nice knife though. I've seen other folding puukko style knives in the past from Kellam in case anyone wants to explore further.

sorry mate, was debating what forum out of the two was going to be most appropriate.

Thanks for all the posts with reccomendations and info guys, much appreciated.

Looks an awful lot like they built it off a Chinese folder and just replaced the scales and custom fabricated the blade. Could be totally wrong but I've seen that kind of clip and frame lock before.

OMG! That is a beautiful knife! You guys are gonna put me in the poorhouse again. Thanks!:D

very interesting idea...

but I'm kinda underwhelmed by the bad grinds and secondary bevel (obvious in pic #3).

Seems like a fun (yes, cute) folder...with nice wood slabs...but not a substitute for a puuko.

YMMV.

I just subed to this thread -that is an awesome link:thumbup:

The Woodsknife-1 is not really double bevel, I'd call it zero grind convex. The convex is very slight, the grind goes flat at 15 degree close to the edge and the convexes into a about 18 degree polished edge. There's no abrupt angle transition all though the pictures make it look like there is.

That 15 deg grind with a 18 deg edge cuts very nice as it is and Im sure isn't that much trouble making into single bevel full flat if someone needs that for a piece of mind...

Agreed. That looks an AWFUL lot like a Maxam or Fury frame :thumbdn: The scales don't even fit properly.

I rather think the Caswell EDC offers all the same benefits and its a well made quality piece let me tell you. I have one bought direct from Joe and the first thing I thought when I opened it up, other than the fact that it reminded me in many ways of my own Ouparator folder, was that the knife has all the things going for it that make it basically a folding Puukko style folder. I was pleased to see that Joe and I had many of the same ideas and feelings about a true utility user knife. It should be comfortable in all grips, easy to use in all grips, and capable of wearing many hats. Sometimes simple is best. All the fancy grips and designs are well and good but in the end these things can take away from versatility by locking the knife into being useful in just one or two grips. The Puukko does not suffer from any of these issues.
