I was browsing the Interweb (George W always cracked me up!) :p and came across this...

What is it??? Is it a Buck collaboration??? If so, who with???

It's not terribly ugly...and it might have some use in my Big Back Yard...as a machete...that folds up for carrying...while mowing...

If it's actually a Buck, can someone tell (or post) the info on it...I won't be able to access Buck's web site in my lifetime to look...

I can't say for sure about the one in your picture, but I have the identical design knife made and sold by Marbles. Mine has a polished blade with "Marbles Quality Knives" etched in the blade. The handle is red jigged "stag/bone". The sheath is really well made and looks like the old Buck fixed blade sheaths with the flap over. Overall length open is 12". It's kind of a cool looking knife.

It never occured to me that it may have been a Buck design. Did the one you saw say something to that effect?

I sure hope it's NOT a Buck knife. It looks a whole lot like a SMKW cheapo taiwan or china made thing. Or the one with Marbles name on it that they are selling now (made in Pakistan).

The Marbles I have like it is made in China, not Pakistan.

When this was brought up, I dug mine out. I'm glad I did because the sheath is a perfect fit for the Buck 118 that I just got off the web specials page. The sheaths that came with those is for a 105 and doesn't fit just right.

The Marbles goes back in it's box minus the sheath.

My mistake, I guess its just the new marbles damascus knives that are being made in Pakistan?

Could be. I have a few Marbles knives from the USA, China and only the Damascus was made in Pakistan. It's the only one I would consider as real "junk".:thumbdn:

These knives were made in Germany (Solingen) since roundabout 100 years. They are called "Saufänger" or "Verlängerungsmesser". That means pigsticker or extension knife. They were made by several knife makers like Zwilling, Wüsthoff or Henckels. They were made with or without foldaway-guard. But since 1950 they produced only the more popular models with the guard. The knives can be used with the popped up or closed blade.

Since 1995 only Hubertus produces these knives in Germany with a guard and fittings made of nickel silver. Linder and Herbertz sell the products made in Italy. And I think that the knife on the picture is an Italian knife. Guard and fitting are made of stainless steel.

These knives do roundabout 200 up to 300 USD.

Hope that helps,
Haebbie

The title of this thread is the name of the auction...

...And with a BIN of $42, I doubt if it's *made* by Buck...My question was whether it is a Buck design...or maybe something that resembles a Buck folding machete...

i would take a good look at the sheath and compare it with existing or known Buck Knives sheaths. Firstly, don't see a the Buck name stamped on the snap button and secondly, i don't ever recall seeing the insides of a Buck sheath raw and unlined. Gut instinct and visual appearence of the materials in use on the product in question is consistant with that of knives coming out from the PRC..
