I haven't posted pictures here for ages...... I just finished this one. It was my first attempt at a V grind tanto blade and also my first try at bolsters. The "liner" of this knife is .100 so it's really a framelock with overlays and bolsters. :) The blade is 5/32" thick 3V (!) and measures 3 1/8" long. This is the first knife I have made out of 3V so there's another first with this piece.

I built this with prying in mind and also I wanted to design a super tough knife that my Dad would NOT be able to break. He's notoriously hard on knives and really ticked me off when he broke the tip off one of my folders last year. Of course, he probably won't be able to sharpen the knife by himself but that's a whole other story...:D

Thanks guys! :) Yeah, it's good to have more models that I can add to my stable. And Lawrence, I KNOW he's going to have a hard time breaking the tip on this one! In fact, I'm willing to bet he can't. :D

Peter I think that will last a while... :D Great looking knife, for all those angles it sure "flows" well! I like the checkering too, don't see that often enough. Thanks for sharing, be sure to let us know if your father is able to do this one any damage. I'm with you, betting that won't happen.

:)

Dave, the lines and flow were a challenge but I'm happy with the overall effect. I'm pretty sure he won't be able to break it if the chunks I was prying from my workbench with it are any indication of how will perform. :D

GREAT LOOKING KNIFE BUT I THINK THAT WHAT YOUR DAD NEEDS IS A FOLDING PRY BAR. WE ALL KNOW THAT KNIVES SHOULD ONLY BE USED FOR CUTTING! RIGHT?

Hey Dale, that's about what this thing is. :) I saw a list a while back on the lateral strengths of steels. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, ATS34 and 440C were about 3 or 4 on the scale, D2 was about 5, S30v weighed in around 10 and 3V rated about 50. So if you want a prybar that will hold an edge then supposedly this is the stuff! I'm testing it now and so far it looks good on both the prying and cutting fronts.

Mark, yes it is. Definitely more belt wear. You can really feel the difference even from S30v which is also a bit harder than some of the other steels. A gold 3m belt (967 maybe?) made short work of it though. But getting scratches out proved to be quite difficult!

ya but why not make a 2 bladed pocket knife? one end the blade and the other a pry bar it would be safer! man i would feel bad it my father was using a knife that i made for him and it slipped and hacked into his flesh and that would be quite a big gash maybee even a loss of a finger!!! thats all i was saying its SAFETY WE WANT RIGHT?

Oh, you must be talking about the framelock multitool that I have on the drawing board right now! ;) Well, I'm slowly working on it. Someday, someday! :)
