Folding Ulu Knife

I sincerely doubt it. That folder itself is a rip-off of an all-stainless model called the folding leaf.

Traditional ulus are great for skinning, etc., but do you really want blood and fur and whatever sliming up your pivot? I'd suggest sticking with a fixed blade.

I have three ulus, and a couple of Bark Rivers with strongly swept points, giving me almost an ulu sweep at the cutting edge.

If you want to try out a simple, inexpensive ulu, this laskan ULU and Bowl is a good start. The DVD is short and sweet, but it's fun, and shows a simple technique for moving through food fast. The bowl/cutting board is nice, too. I believe the ulu itself is 420J2 and the edge did not last forever. :D

I've been interested in an Ulu for quite some time, thought I'd make one from an old saw blade but it never happened.
It seems like there are more then a few patterns or styles, and grips.
For a working Ulu, what seems to work best, or what do you look for?

A wide sharp (thin) blade. The more curve the better. Pointy ends.

Each of mine has a very different grip than the others, but they are all comfortable in their own way. I also have a mezzaluna from my grandmother, which is the same sort of knive, with another different kind of handle.

There was a Canadian custom maker who used to make a "tactical ulu". It was really beautiful. Like a fool a didn't buy one and now I forgot who the maker was. Anyone know? RL probably has six...
(No, not Spence Reiter)

The Chris Caracci Pendulum probably qualified as a folding tactical ulu. I can't find a picture, though. It's too long ago.

The "folding ulu" in the OP is a POS. They sell them at wallmart and as an Alakan I am thinking seriously about bieng offended, lol. Seriously besides the rounded skinning blades by people like KOA, there is little reason to vary the ulu's design or make a folding model imo. Even the koa skinner is fixed blade. Just not much use for a folding ulu imo. There are nice 1 finegered ones available. Some of the tactical ulu's remind me of the knife from Cobra, hehe.
