I got my hands on another FG 1211 after gifting my first one. I have always admired the patina of vintage WW2 MK2s. Akin to watching a B-17 doing a fly by at an airshow. With that visual in mind I set out making my modern 1211s blade look like it was 80 years old but with features I like on my blades. First I convexed the edge to 20°, put a 90° spine for my Ferro rods, stripped and patina/aged the blade. But I forgot to patina the pommel in my excitement. I will soak it in hot sauce or something tomorrow.

I've been wanting to get one of these. How is the guard, never liked a quillion on top, is that what you call it? I know they have had them since the beginning, just never had one.

On a sword it's called a Quillion. On a knife it's a guard. On my Kabar 1317 it's smaller. A big part of my fondness for the 1211 is the molle sheath and the guard is the retention when not using the snap. In fact, I snap the snap around the back of the nylon drop and never use it. It is so quick to sheath and unsheath it's perfect for working in the yard and or clearing shooting lanes. And I prefer the Kraton G handle over the leather.

milkyeye milkyeye The guard snaps over the two retention knubs. You pull the handle out and away from your body a wee bit and it disengages and you lift it straight out. Then you just drop it back in and the guard snaps over the knubs. I Love It

I got a 1211 in a 1213 sheath with I ordered a 2013, black handle. Its a good General Purpose use knife and light and useful for just getting lost in the woods.

I love my FG 1211. It's the main impetus in my buying two D2 Extremes, both #1282, originally with Kydex Molle compatible sheath, which are now carried in their ballistic nylon sheaths, #8017S... Not fond of the noise inherent in the Kydex sheaths, but for work in or near water, the Kydex is still king... I like having the front pouches, of the ballistic nylon sheaths, in which I have a überleben Zünden 3/8" fire starter in my left sheathed knife pouch, and a DMT FWEF and FSKE in the other sheathed knife pouch... These ballistic nylon sheaths are $40.00, each, and to me, worth every penny. Half a century ago, I had drummed into me, that a sharp blade was always worked toward, and having the ability to start a fire, was "golden..." So, that is one of the foundations of my EDC and preps in general... As much as I like the softer, more pliable sheath found in the FG 1211, I prefer the D2 Extremes in their ballistic nylon sheaths. I will be buying one more #8017S, for my FG 1211... Ka-Bar and Becker- when only battle proven perfection will do...

I took the 1211 out to do some small diameter around 1 inch branch clearing. The 20° edge is a smooth cutter but I wanted better. In the past I have used a 15° convex then put on a 20° convex edge. It breaks the shoulder angle back but still provides a strong edge. That did the trick. Nice smooth cuts. I also beat up on some cured oak and had zero rolls or chips. I'm in business.
