Its official. Ive caught the bug. For years, I lurked in the background, watching Grateful collecting knives; content to carry the same Case Yellow CV Peanut day after day. As the years went by, I picked up a bit of the lingo, learned a historical fact here and there, and got pretty good at choosing a good knife for Jims Christmas and Birthday present. Then I found myself reading a thread or two on this forum that Jim would accidentally leave open, looking at all the pretty pictures, and reading about all the knives you all love so much. Then one day I caught myself oohing over a particularly nice photo of a red bone this or a stag that leaning rather provocatively against a nicely shaped, smooth stone. Oh my!
And then it happened. Sunnyd had to go and have a give-away, offering a sweet little Schrade pen knife, and Jim had to go and win it, and then have the audacity to give it to me when I told him how sweet I thought it was. That was it. I was hooked. I bought an old Western off Ebay within the week; made the rounds of all the local antique shops the very next day, making weary clerks unlock every case that held a slippie (I bought Jim a Camillus hawkbill pruner.) A week later I bought a new Case black bone Baby Butterbean, my new favorite pattern. I am anxiously checking the mailbox daily waiting for an old Merrimac Cutlery blue penknife to arrive. (Ill post a photo and ask you all about it when it gets here.) Theres no turning back now. You can see these knives along with my ol peanut, Sunnyds Schrade, and another old Western that Jim very graciously gave me to add to my collection in the photo. (It was snowing outside-that's what the little spots on the blades are.)
Im one of you now. May the Folksy be with you!!!
