This an upddate on a earlier post of mine. I made a die for my press tohelp ith the edges when forge welding cable for damascus. Th die is 2 in. long with a 1 in. hole in it.
I split it in half andmde die out of it. I got to try it this passt weekend and it worked great. I ended up with aa rock solid billet right to the very edge.
the process went like this, I welded both ends of the cable tight and heated and fluxed it. When it got to wellding temp, I put it in the vise and tightened it and reheated to temp and pressed it the die. It had a ridge about 1/8 in high on each side, so i reheated and pressed it again with ridges up. It left it nice and round. then i reheated it and packed once on anvil and from there on i flatened it to about 3/16 in.

I have ground one blade from billet, it has great pattern and looks good.

Thanks for comments on my first post, any questions? Leroyk
