Even though Mother Natures force can cause hardships, a person can learn much from a experience such as this latest hurricane. The most important asset you have is a positive mental attitude. Plan ahead, but always be prepared. This is what we in the survival community practice. For me having PMA helped me cope with a bad situation. I just got power restored at 7:45 pm this evening. It went out at 6:45 AM Sunday morning. I was able to keep everything going by being prepared. I used some of my camping gear to heat water & cook, provide light at nite. I had most of what I needed already and didn't have to run out like an idiot, and fight the crowds for necessary items such as batteries, water, propane and food. If need be I could have gone down to Deer Creek and gathered water and purified it by boiling, water purification tabs or by Steripen. I have plenty of wood behind the house to build a fire to purify if I did run out of propane. This experience was not much different then spending 3 days in the woods. So you can't bath everyday or access the internet, talk on a cell phone. You do what you have to do to keep going.
I've been in this situation before so it's not that big a deal to handle it.
Unfortunately not much knife use. I did spark the propane stoves with my UNK and a ferro rod.
