This is my current knife I use for food a Maxace Beetle-S Slip Joint folder with bone scales and m390 blade quite thin so it cuts very well

My wife never approves of me cutting up my pizza but it’s more enjoyable and I don’t burn my mouth as often when biting into hot pizza’s this way

Agree, the Opinel's are always a great choice for things like that, this folder is more on the fancy side but the blade is on par with how thin when compared to an Opinel, it's quite thin and very sharp

I typically use my Spyderco PM2 when needed for food when I’m away from home. At home I never use a folding knife but it’s great to have one that does a good job when traveling. I’m waiting for the Spyderco Military 2 to be released. I’m sure it will be great for traveling food duty.

Yep, yep, biting works too, I just like to get them into manageable pieces first ;)

My favorite folding food knife is a Mercator k55 cat knife. It’s literally a folding pairing knife.

When my dad saw my Opinel knife. His eyes lit up, and he got excited. OMG! Were did you get this? I’ve always wanted one!

Turns out he had a co worker in the 60’s who kept one in his lunch box and my dad was really impressed with it. But never knew what it was or how to get one. Of course I gave him mine. It made him so happy!

I have the comically large No13 knife that does duty as a traveling watermelon knife. My kids call it “the watermelon knife”.

So opinel gets honorable mention as my favorite folding food knife.

I have used my folders and fixed blades when dining out exclusively for years. It's always what I happen to be carrying, but for the last year or so that's been a Buck 110 most of time, or a Buck 112 LT on other occasions over the same time period.

I like to cook for friends and family when I travel. To the point that I carry spice packs.
I used to make do with my EDC, a Spyderco wharncliffe Delica because everybody had dull knives.
We do B&B's a lot when traveling and I've NEVER found a sharp knife there,
Was recently gifted an AG Russell Folding Cooks Knife. A 41/2" folding santoku style knife.
Really like it a lot.

When I travel for work I take a Tramontina chef knife I bought at Walmart while traveling for work. I also take a cutting board, knife, fork, and spoon I bought at Walmart while traveling for work. And a camp coffee cup that has measuring graduations. Also a coffee grinder, an Aeropress, some chopsticks, a spork, some salt, and good black pepper.

When I go to restaurants I use the knives they provide. But I also use the pool cues at the pool haul and the bowling balls at the bowling alley; I guess I'm just not professional enough of an eater to bring my own special restaurant knife.

I use my regular EDC for food if required. I don't unclog sewer pipes with them in a regular basis so I guess I am ok.

Granted I favour slicy blade shapes/thickness such as the aforementioned Spyderco Paramilitary + Military + Stretch + Resilence + Centofante III, Cold Steel Code 4, Manly Peak... They are the closest thing to a Chefs knife I could carry in my pocket.

Things get interesting when I try to delicately slice an apple with an Emerson Commander though....

Sound logic right there ;)

And those that do use their knife while away from home as food cutting, do you dedicate that particular knife/blade just for food? I use to do that with the large blade of my Swiss Army Pioneer X blade and still do from time to time as most anything else that needs cutting is relegated to the clipped knife in my pocket or on my belt.

I designed and built this knife for very similar reasons to your post. A food prep/chef inspired knife that is meant to be a balance of food prep and heavier utility type chores around a campground, deer camp, outfitter backcountry camps etc. It can handle a wide variety of uses but is in a safer, easier to carry and more convenient package than dedicated kitchen cutlery.
