Who of you out there dehydrate food? Is it worth the time?

I dehydrate everything because I am not a big fan of the salt content of freeze dried meals or any of the stuff at the super market that is "add water and cook." This why I can control how much salt the meal gets.

Also, pre-cooking pasta and real rice (not minute rice) and then dehydrating it is a great way to have good food in the woods, but save tons of time. Why boil pasta for 10 minutes either tending a fire or wasting stove fuel? When I dehydrate it, I bring water to a boil, put it in, pull it off the fire and it is good to go in a couple of minutes.

This woman is a little weird, but her website is a great resource for dehydrating stuff: Dehydrate to Store.

The recipe in the video does look good. Thanks for sharing the video.

I have been known to rinse and dehydrate canned soups/stews to get lighter food loadout. (you can add your own choice of extras like onion, carrots, peppers ect.) word of caution tho...Drying these and rehydrating them will make you a "fart monster"..especially those containing meats. Your camping companions will demand you sleep downwind! :)

I gotta give this a try, very cool.
I got some squash growing right now with no idea what to do with it till now. Sweet!
