food for thought...

I have been quiet for a while, but back and ready for another fix!

So just to get the INFI juices flowing... let me ask this question.

When you think of taking your Busse into the backwoods as a survival tool, what tasks do you think about having to rely on it to do?

examples: build shelter, make other tools, etc... Are their more random tasks that you actually think about? perhaps making a bow and set of arrows, cutting your way out of an airplane (stinky) or building an igloo?

Based on those thoughts which knife do you grab and does that choice change depending on destination?

Cutting stuff.

Seriously though, I want a satin jack tac mainly for backpacking. I have chopped down a two and a half inch in diameter sapling with my current backpacking fixed blade, which only has a four inch blade (Mad Dog 3/16 thin grip Packrat), so I am looking forward to seeing what the extra two inches will do. I don't chop a lot, but gosh darn it, it's just fun. Mostly I like having a fixed blade on me because they are tougher, quicker to deploy, etc. I am also looking forward to the relatively stainless INFI blade, although I never had any real issues with my MD I do occasionaly get discoloration on the edge where the hard chrome has been sharpened away, and I am always worried about it rusting when I am out in the woods regardless of the amount of Tough Cloth I apply. I have to say it has been a good knife, but I suppose the handle is too slick for my tastes, which is another reason I am looking forward to a Busse.

i think i would have to put the fire out first before cutting my way out of my airplane:eek:

shelter would be my first thought for a busse and a sh would be my choice.

i carry a 3" folder for all the small cutting choirs from fingernails to fish to elk.

I like the 3/16 Satin Jack, nice and light, good
chopper and thin enough for slicing things.

i agree with the jack too! it's definitly one of my faves and when on foot i prefer the jack or a sh1. the light weight lets me carry extra beer.

i like bigger knives when in mechinized mode.:)

the zt-no is also a great one!!

My AD or small Sebenza does 80-90% of my general "camp" duties. This is mostly fuzz sticks, food prep, smaller kindling, whittling tie-down stakes.

The SHII takes care of nearly all the rest, like larger firewood and extra shelter cover, except for that 2-3% that an actual axe would be used for.

I've found this combo to be just about right for my own outdoor activities, but I'm not one of those snake-eating manifesto writers.

For something like airplanes, I'd really rather have my DeWalt reciprocating saw... :p ;)

Good point on the putting the fire out comment stinky! Maybe you could get OKU or BuyBrown to design a sheath with a built in extinguisher.

I have been thinking of getting either the Fusion SH when they come out or an SJ in .25" if I can find one....I used to have one and loved the way it fir into my hand... had to let her go for cash purposes. I do love my SH-E and just like variety. For the smaller tasks I have plenty of folders and smaller fixed blades to choose from, though the INFI Folder would be a welcome addition! :D

Mtnclimber69!!!!! We've missed you around here!! Good to see you're back!!:D

I don't have any helpful comments for you, just wanted to say hello!!

:D BB:D

Hey BB, you just like the fact that you can refer to me as 69! and for the record that is my birth year, nothing kinky about it... on this forum anyway.
