Wow, went back in time and the question about Tuf-Cloth was asked and answered by the manufacturer (Sentry) right here on Bladeforums 23 years ago! I’ll post it below if anyone else has concerns about this dry lube. Sounds like it might be ok with some extra care in washing the blade beforehand and then reapplying after.

Are TUF-CLOTHs safe for food use? Yes, this is addressed on our web site FAQs and yes, this has come up a lot, but not since last year. Quick answer- TUF-CLOTH is not an FDA approved product. Please read on for the rest of the story
If you plan to cut food with a TUF-CLOTH treated blade we suggest that you wash the blade first. The washing/wiping simply removes any excess which might transfer.
TUF-CLOTHs protection is micro-bonded to the metal surface of blades etc.. This bonding reduces the possibility of transferring material to food items that might be cut. Bonding is also the principle reason why our products are so effective.
None, of Sentry Solutions' products are FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved. FDA approval is required for any product which a manufacturer states is safe to use with food. Indeed none of the products discussed in these forums- Ren. Wax, White Lighting etc. are FDA approved and so none of them can be assumed to be safe for use with food. In the two+ years I have been visiting Blade Forums I have never seen any input on this subject from the manufacturers of those products. I, for one, am curious but not because I use them. I am one of Sentrys owners and a biologist by training. I am personally concerned with the safe use of our products. Sentry Solutions is very sensitive to peoples concerns about health etc. To that end we have developed products that are safe to use.
The active ingredients, those that bond are non-toxic and biodegradable. Again- the products are not FDA approved. A few words on FDA Approval- FDA approval requires that not only a product be non-toxic but that the product is made using clean/bacteria/germ free materials and ingredients and manufactured and packaged in a clean/bacteria/germ free environment. Basically the manufacturing conditions are for food and medical products. That would dictate our clothes, bags etc. be washed before use and the products manufactured under food/medical grade conditions. Our products are safe, industrial products.
Now a chance for me to blow the Sentry Solutions horn- TUF-GLIDE won the BLADE 2000 Knife Accessory of the Year Award, of course TUF-CLOTH won the Blade Forums Award in 1998. Our TUF Products are now endorsed and recommended by more than 40 knife & tool companies. A big THANK YOU to all of our supporters, you know who you are. We put so much work into our products it is great to see that people really like them. I hope to see a bunch of you at Blade West in September. I will be giving a seminar on Knife Care so come with your tough questions.
Oh yes- David, dont count on any money from a lawsuit but perhaps youll be interested in our IPO, it will be a much better bet.
