Hello to everyone in the group,
I have a sak waiter that goes every where with me and is used for everything from gutting fish, jobs at work, peeling fruit ect ect.
What I was wondering has anyone ever heard of someone getting food poisoning not just with saks but other slip joints.I was particularly concerned with bacteria getting under the red scale handles.
Are my concerns justified?
P.S I do wash it regularly.
Thanks Joe.

Speaking personally and not "expertly," I too use my knives as you do. When it comes time to prepare food, I do clean the blade and then make sure the actual handel does not touch the food. Not saying its a good idea, just what I do!
And welcome to Bladeforums!

I dont think thats a big concern, however you can use cooking oil on your blade instead of honing oil, or gun oil, ect if you use it to prepare food. As far as stuff getting under the scales, not a big concern (unless your dipping your knife in fish guts, or something like that, and never claening it off).

First of all hello to everybody in the group and thanks for the welcome.I cannot beleive that I've been on the net for so long and diden't know about this forum.
As for the food poisoning thought I was probably over reacting a bit but it never hearts to get some one else's opinion.
Just a bit of background on me;from Australia, 33, helicopter mechanic,ex-army.Always been interested in "slip joints" as I beleive there the working mans knife. At least here in Australia anyway.Often the the only tool one would have so every thing else had to be able to be fixed with it.It's amazing just what people have done with these simple tools.
Anyway I look forward reading future threads and seeing what peoples opinions are on different subjects.
Regards Joe.

Glad you joined us for the ride Joe. I hope you enjoy this place and it's cast of characters at least as much as I do. Welcome!

If you don't keep your knife cleaned, food poisoning is a possibility. If you've ever had food poisoning you won't risk getting it again. It hurts...it hurts REAL bad....
