I remember I was at a hardware store when I was a kid out in california. I picked up these food ration bricks, that were foil packed. They were just like bricks of food, supposedly with all the nutrients you need. I ate a few, and remember they didn't taste that bad.
These were sold as last ditch food items incase of a bad earthquake or something, anyone know where to get them? Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I know these aren't MREs, I had them at the time.

hey joe! you mean these!

I think Brigade Quartermasters has got a fair price for them. I keep meaning to pick some up.

They were in the last BQ catalogue that I got. I thought the prices were low enough that I might just try a few for the heck of it.

What you are describing are lifeboat rations. They are designed to provide an inactive person minimal nutrition to stay alive. In the past there have been some threads discussing this item. A search here on BFC should locate those prior threads for you.

Both the S.O.S. and Datrex brands are available from Emergency Preparedness Services website.

The lifeboat rations I've tried in the past I always found to be pretty flat tasting. They were quite bland with overtones of coconut taste. Also, due to lack of moisture in them, they resemble dry dust compressed into little bricks. Not nauseously bad, but not fine cuisine either. ;)

The post I see is of 2005, so before I make any comments on such food or restaurant or shop where it can be available, I want to know, is it worth to write and if you still looking for the information.
