Greetings all. I've seen the question pop up every once in awhile regarding a food safe lube-metal protector. I just found a tube of "Super Lube" Synthetic grease at the local hardware store. (Grey tube multi colored strips on it. It is advertised as a synthetic grease with Syncolon (PTFE). If my limited memory serves me, I believe thats Teflon. The back of the tube states that it is USDA authorized, rated H-1 and it has the NSF stamp of approval.

I've just greased my Sebenza with it and it is indeed pretty slick stuff. A little thick and assuredly stays where you put it. The knife is not as fast as it would be with Miltech, but the very slight resistence is not much different from other high end grease type lubes and is just about right on this knife for me. Just passing on info.

On my carbon steel knives that will get used around food, I use mineral oil. It is also good on wooden items also. Completely food safe, AND keeps you regular to boot!! :D

PTFE is good lubricant, however, i'm really surprised to find it's approved and safe in the edible sense. I posted awhile back about using Slick50's 'One Lube' however, that stuff is not thick. More along the lines of 3-in-1 consistency. I don't know if thats more or less desireable, however, it makes action extremely fast.

One Lube, also being PTFE, states to avoid skin contact and ingestion! Honestly i've had much skin contact, and i've probably ingested trace amounts of it and any other grease and contaminant you'd find under the hood of a car, without any problems.

Been using Super Lube for years, mostly on firearms, and it's a first-rate product. Since I began using it on my semiauto pistols, especially the slides/rails, I can detect no further wear whatsoever, even on my aluminum framed guns.

Quite by accident, I learned of Super Lube's "food safe" rating from a British website a couple years ago. I think the Brits are pretty strict on stuff like this, so that's encouraging.

Of course, just like I wouldn't want any of that world-famous "Kentucky Jelly" (KY) on my toast, I try not to ingest Super Lube, either.
