In the food industry we have metal detectors to catch the metal shavings from knife sharpening during the knife sharpening process when we sharpen our knives during food preperation. In the everyday kitchen their is no metal detectors.
Knife solutions elminates the metal shavings. Why doesn't anyone talk or deal with this hazard in the every day kitchen????

When I sharpen, most of the metal gets stuck on the abrasive belt, I usually just give the blade a wipe with a cloth after I'm done, I've never had an issue with it.

I would think that most people would wipe their blades down/clean them after the sharpening process, and before using them for food prep.Though I haven't used that sharpener from knife solutions, but those hand held sharpeners don't tend to leave the best edge on a blade.

I'd think any of the ceramic rods and ceramic doohicky sharpeners would be fine.

The white rods don't remove much metal and I use them in the kitchen all the time. An edge starts to feel a bit dull, I just do a quick stroke on each side of the blade.

I don't see an issue with metal shavings and such.

What, are there people using 80 grit power wheels or such in kitchens? Why?

I am going to move both your threads to our Mantenance, Tinkering & Embellishment forum, where we discuss sharpening.

metal detector or metal catcher?

Why would I have a metal detector in my kitchen?

There is only one kind of knife that I can think of right now that definitely has extremely hazardous particles and it's not likely to be in anyones kitchen for food prep.

I can see no hazard... what are you getting at?

Because the "hazard" doesn't exist.
1) you sharpen the knife.
2) you rinse the sharpened knife in soap and water.
Done. No chips. No hazzard. No BS about some weird product.

This is two posts about the same product. Are you spamming us?

"Food safe knife sharpeners" really?

Are you sharpening on your cutting board?

I would thing anyone with half a brain would rinse off or wipe the blade before using it to cut food. I also thing you should be more worried about cross contamintation from cutting different foods (meat, fish, poultry) as that could actually be deadly.

Wash the knife with soap and water after sharpening.

Leave the metal detector for the doofus at the airport! :D:D
