Foods Associated With Religions

I was reading the thread about everyone's favorite Jewish foods and it got me thinking (a rare and dangerous occurrence). There are ethnic foods, national foods and regional foods. Perhaps there are foods of other subgroups. But, are there foods associated with any religion other than Judaism?

Actually, most of the "Jewish" foods discussed have nothing to do with religion. Matzoh and chrain (horseradish) are two exceptions.

How about Easter eggs and the bread and wine used in communion?

If we substitute "ethnic foods" for "religious foods" it works better.

For example, in the Jewish foods thread, someone brought up corned beef and cabbage.

In contrast, the Irish like corned beef and cabbage.

:D

Actually, corned beef and cabbage has nothing to do with Irish-Americans. It's really a variety of Boston Boiled Dinner. The reason it has been connected with the Irish is that it was about the cheapest meal you could get and the Irish immigrants were dirt poor.

BTW, halal is not a type of food. It is a system of rules regarding food and other things in Muslim life. It is similar to kosher, but they are not interchangeable. Muslims may accept kosher foods as halal, but halal foods are not accepted as kosher. The difference is in how the foods are handled and prepared. (Google is your friend)

Well, I guess that I sit corrected as far as corned beef and cabbage goes. It shows that my knowledge of the Irish is not original, and comes from living in Boston..... See how much you learn at BFC?

Most people, even Christian folks, are not aware that the same food laws that God gave Israel apply to everyone!
They aren't laws of morality like the ten commandments, they're laws God gave us to help us stay healthy!
Chapter 11 of Leviticus covers most of these laws. They include things like not eating scavengers. bleeding animals before you eat them, only eating fish that have scales and fins, and only eat critters that have cloven/split hooves and chew their cud.
I used to eat pork till I learned that these laws applied to everyone, not just Jewish folks!
Hmmm, now I'm not sure this pertains to this thread's title, lol!

I know growing up Catholic that we were not supposed to eat meat on Friday's and fish was always sold on at all the local churches. So I guess Fish would be a Catholic food. This has been changed now and most Catholics are only following this during lent.

I can`t say that there are any specifically Mormon foods, but sometimes it seems like every event I went to in Utah had green jello salad with carrots in it.

Yes , there is a religion in India that prohibits eating anything with a red color !
