I found this You Tube Video,... this guy takes some MOPAR (Miscellaneous Oddball Parts Assembled at Random) not to be confused with the Hemi manufacturer 
and uses old school tools, chisels, saws, brace and bits, etc, to build a foot powered lathe from scratch.....lots of wood cutting, chiseling, drilling, even some axes on the wall of his shop....very entertaining video, time lapsed with some good time music. Very talented wood worker.
