As many people suggested I got a foot switch / pedal for my disc grinder.
I have a VFD setup for my KMG and want to add disc grinder to the same VFD.
I just connected the pedal to my VFD and since I still don't have a motor for disc grinder I tried to play with pedal by controlling my KMG.
WOW! I loved it! It gives you so much more control. I always had problem starting a grind perfectly flat against the belt and since it was never perfectly flat belt was sometimes leaving a mark if blade contacted belt at the wrong angle. I somehow learned to manage it by applying very little pressure on a first touch and when I feel that blade is flat I apply more pressure. Because it's easy to screwed up(leave a mark) taking blade off/on the belt I often hesitate to do it and continue grind it "blind".
With a pedal it so much simpler! You put your blade against belt and then start your grinder.
With no fear to take blade off the belt I noticed I do it probably 3 times more often and can see what I am doing better.
I adjusted my VFD so it takes 3 seconds to bring motor to full speed thus avoid jerking a blade.
Another thing that is great about pedal that when you take a blade away from belt you stop grinder and with no noise of running machinery somehow it's easier to concentrate and take your time instead of rushing into grinding. Running grinder is forcing you to grind when you really need to take your time and do things slowly.
My pedal gave me biggest (after KMG) improvement in results.
Try it! You will never feel sorry about it.
